“Labproject, teaching artist monteze freeland wednesday and thursday 9:30am-11:30am the outcome of the urban community choir, dance and theater was showcased july 29, 2016. The outcome of the visual art project will be displayed in the in the hill district community partnering with hill house association. Fridays was fun fridays for camp participants to engage in community service, swimming and fieldtrips. Creative camp programs theater creative camp - the lab project in conjunction with ach clear pathways conducted a summer workshop highlighting the work of pittsburgh native august wilson with a culminating performance entitled a summer of august. The intensive shed light on the playwrights background and contributions to the american theater in addition to highlighting the significance of his pittsburgh play cycle. Dance bridges is the title of the ach hip-hop piece. Bridges was a playoff of pittsburgh being the city of bridges, and the interconnectivity of residents from the diverse neighborhoods of the city. Bridges will also ask young dancers, if you could change one thing about your community, what would it be? What would lie at the end of your bridge? With this prompt in mind, we were able to explore choreography that comes straight from the dancers experiences and stories. Goals of the ach hip-hop: class, 1. Complete bridges in its entirety (roughly ten minutes), 2. Strengthen dancers technique, memory retention, stage presence and form, 3. Execute the end-of-program performance successfully music eugene perry, an opera singer and voice professor at edinboro university, conducts an urban youth choir as part of the ach urban pathways music program. Children learn both music theory concepts and forms of vocalization and harmonization. They rehearse pieces throughout the program and ends the program with a concert performance for community members, funders, family and friends. As part of the music program, guest presenters such as a steel drum instructor. The goal of the music program is to instill the love of music in the children and give them a basic understanding of various forms of musical expression. The urban choir will also teach the importance of working and singing together as a team. Visual art students took all ten images of the play cover and worked toward creating a mural on four 8x4 plywood boards and creatively mosaic the artwork. Students will examine august wilsons ten plays series and focus on the decades issues. Talk about collaboration of teenie harris and langston hughes work. An in-depth discussion on depiction of why the artwork is compiled the way it is, and how and why he is inspired by romere bearden. DANCE BRIDGES IS THE TITLE OF THE ACH HIP-HOP PIECE. BRIDGES WAS A PLAYOFF OF PITTSBURGH BEING THE CITY OF BRIDGES, AND THE INTERCONNECTIVITY OF RESIDENTS FROM THE DIVERSE NEIGHBORHOODS OF THE CITY. BRIDGES WILL ALSO ASK YOUNG DANCERS, IF YOU COULD CHANGE ONE THING ABOUT YOUR COMMUNITY, WHAT WOULD IT BE? WHAT WOULD LIE AT THE END OF YOUR BRIDGE? WITH THIS PROMPT IN MIND, WE WERE ABLE TO EXPLORE CHOREOGRAPHY THAT COMES STRAIGHT FROM THE DANCERS EXPERIENCES AND STORIES. GOALS OF THE ACH HIP-HOP: CLASS, 1. COMPLETE BRIDGES IN ITS ENTIRETY (ROUGHLY TEN MINUTES), 2. STRENGTHEN DANCERS TECHNIQUE, MEMORY RETENTION, STAGE PRESENCE AND FORM, 3. EXECUTE THE END-OF-PROGRAM PERFORMANCE SUCCESSFULLY MUSIC EUGENE PERRY, AN OPERA SINGER AND VOICE PROFESSOR AT EDINBORO UNIVERSITY, CONDUCTS AN URBAN YOUTH CHOIR AS PART OF THE ACH URBAN PATHWAYS MUSIC PROGRAM. CHILDREN LEARN BOTH MUSIC THEORY CONCEPTS AND FORMS OF VOCALIZATION AND HARMONIZATION. THEY REHEARSE PIECES THROUGHOUT THE PROGRAM AND ENDS THE PROGRAM WITH A CONCERT PERFORMANCE FOR COMMUNITY MEMBERS, FUNDERS, FAMILY AND FRIENDS. AS PART OF THE MUSIC PROGRAM, GUEST PRESENTERS SUCH AS A STEEL DRUM INSTRUCTOR. THE GOAL OF THE MUSIC PROGRAM IS TO INSTILL THE LOVE OF MUSIC IN THE CHILDREN AND GIVE THEM A BASIC UNDERSTANDING OF VARIOUS FORMS OF MUSICAL EXPRESSION. THE URBAN CHOIR WILL ALSO TEACH THE IMPORTANCE OF WORKING AND SINGING TOGETHER AS A TEAM. VISUAL ART STUDENTS TOOK ALL TEN IMAGES OF THE PLAY COVER AND WORKED TOWARD CREATING A MURAL ON FOUR 8X4 PLYWOOD BOARDS AND CREATIVELY MOSAIC THE ARTWORK. STUDENTS WILL EXAMINE AUGUST WILSONS TEN PLAYS SERIES AND FOCUS ON THE DECADES ISSUES. TALK ABOUT COLLABORATION OF TEENIE HARRIS AND LANGSTON HUGHES WORK. AN IN-DEPTH DISCUSSION ON DEPICTION OF WHY THE ARTWORK IS COMPILED THE WAY IT IS, AND HOW AND WHY HE IS INSPIRED BY ROMERE BEARDEN. THEY ALSO BUILT A BODY CAST OF AUGUST WILSON OUT OF DUCT TAPE AND DECORATED IT WITH FAMOUS QUOTES FROM HIS PLAYS. ACADEMIC ARTS AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS VISUAL ART - TUFFLA TREE ART STUDENTS BUILT A TREE; THE TREE WILL REPRESENT CHOICES THAT WE MAKE IN LIFE ENVIRONMENTALLY, BUT ALSO REPRESENTING OUR VOICES ON BEING A CHANGE AND MAKING A DIFFERENCE OUTSIDE OF YOU FOR A BETTERMENT OF THE WORLD. SPOKEN WORDS STUDENTS WILL BE INTRODUCED TO WRITING AND POSITIVE EXPRESSION. CONNECTING THE LESSONS TO THE CULTURAL LEGACY OF AFRICAN AMERICAN MUSIC AND PERFORMANCE, ALLOWING THE STUDENTS TO UNDERSTAND THE IMPORTANCE OF ARTISTIC DEVELOPMENT IN OUR COMMUNITIES. WHILE BEING INTRODUCED TO THE ESSENCE OF WRITING, WHILE EXPLORING THE ROLE ART AND CULTURE PLAYS IN THE POSITIVE DEVELOPMENT OF SELF-IDENTITY. DANCE - 5A ELITE YOUTH EMPOWERMENT STUDENTS WILL KNOW EXAMPLES OF BODY SHAPES AND MOVEMENT QUALITIES. EXAMPLES OF BODY SHAPES IN RESPONSE TO SHAPES IN A PAINTING QUALITY.
