“Program Service Expenses 115,603, Grants and allocations 0, Revenue 0 Hunger Free San Diego SDHC provides research and leadership to create a more effective and interconnected system of hunger relief. In 2016, SDHC launched Hunger Free San Diego, a collaborative planning effort to end hunger in our region supported by research and driven by evidence-based solutions. Currently in its research phase, Hunger Free SD is guided by a local advisory board of 30 CEOs, decision-makers and experts representing food banks, pantries, social service agencies, government, healthcare, school districts, philanthropy, and other aligned collaboratives.”

| IRS990/Desc | 0 | CalFreshAn estimated 500,000 people in San Diego County do not always have enough to eat and CalFresh SNAP or food stamps is the most effective solution. In San Diego County, most CalFresh recipients are children, seniors and people with disabilities. However, only 60 of those eligible are enrolled because the application process is so complex and difficult. SDHC makes the process easier by working closely with the County Health Human Services Agency to remove barriers and supporting community-based organizations that help people apply. SDHCs 2016 activities included 1. Leading CalFresh Task Force meetings in 4 different regions with 40 partner organizations attending regularly 2. Training 578 staff across 27 partner organizations on CalFresh application assistance and outreach 3. Managing a state contract that provided 230,000 to SDHCs 14 local subcontractors,including food banks,community clinics and social service agencies, which submitted 4935 applications for new households and 3949 annual recertifications for enrolled households an estimated total 18,656 people. |

SDHC works with local school districts and youth-serving organizations to ensure all low-income children have access to healthy meals year-round. SDHC helps launch new meal programs with a focus on expanding school breakfast, afterschool and summer meal progams across the county. SDHC provides free hands-on technical assistance and ongoing support to school districts and nonprofits to assess and implement new programs, identify funding opportunities and boost participation. More than 50 different partners come to SDHCs Summer Meals Task Force, which is the leading resource for starting new summer meal sites and improving existing sites. In 2016, SDHC launched 24 new youth meal programs across the county in partnership with 4 school districts, 4 community-based organizations, 2 libraries and 1 one affordable housing development, reaching an estimated 2900 children with 297,219 additional meals that will be served each year, sustained by federal reimbursements. |
