Out goal is to develop our participants physical and mental health in a fun and unique environment, deeply rooted in seflt-discipline, teamwork, and whole-body awaremenss. At the same, we value and welcome the rich cultural knowledge and experiences of the youth and communities we serve. Race swami is a 501 (c) (3) non profit club service the rose park, glendale and neighboring communities of salt lake city's west side.”

“January ten high school-aged swamis competed in their respective high school state championship meets (west, east, skyline, and judge memorial) with a record number of top 10 finishes in race swami history. 25k grant awarded from george s. And dolores dor eccles foundation and a record high 20,225 raised from race swami's 2019 annual appeal. February race swami finishes 15th overall at the utah senior state championship meet (15 and over) held at the washington recreation center in st. George. March as one of the few community-fed swimming programs in the state, race swami finishes an impressive 10th place overall (out of more than 30 teams statewide) at the utah age group state championships (14 and under). Record number of race swami swimmers (8) qualify for the prestigious speedo far westerns championships held in santa clara, ca. April race swami unveils all new web site and team branding as the program expands its swimming and enrichment outreach, remaining as utah swimming's only organization serving underrepresented youth. With covid19 shutting down the majority of utah's schools and businesses statewide, race swami continues serving its youth with free online tutoring, online dryland training, and offering its families influential guest speakers covering a number of pertinent topics. May race swami receives 50k from sorenson legacy foundation, marking the eighth consecutive year the program has received support from the foundation. Race swami resumes its annual swami speaker series featuring guest speakers including pro quarterback and ute alum alex smith, jazz coach johnnie bryant, winemaker/entrepreneur amelia ceja, bestselling author julie checkoway, a sports nutritionist panel from intermountain healthcare, and several of other speakers raised in the west side communities of salt lake. Race swami recognized as a usa swimming "safe sport" certified program, implementing important team policies that enforce and monitor the safety and wellbeing of all its athletes and staff. June swamis return to the water with a plethora of sessions comprised of no more than 12 swimmers per session, the swamis are elated to be back training in the water with safe and effective swim practices, and enjoying the exercise while reengaging with their teammates. Swami's annual summer book club kicks off another season with three varying groups (high school, middle school, and elementary school) encompassing more than 30 kids. The 8-week courses feature age-appropriate popular book selections, written by people of color with topics covering racial injustice, civil rights and inspiring stories. Race swami graduates six swamis from area schools. All six graduates will be attending colleges and universities in the fall. Since race swami's founding the program has a 100% graduation rate with all student-athletes continuing on to colleges and universities- many of whom are the first in their respective family to do so. July race swami hosts two intrasquad "virtual meets." the kids enjoy the fun and competition with their teammates, and there are several personal best times posted during the meets- after just eight weeks of training in the water coach matt finnigan is featured in the summer edition of nisca's magazine for his work in fighting social injustice and exclusion in competitive swimming. Nisca is a professional organization that supports high school and club coaches of all aquatic sports in the united states. August race swami receives "club relief" grant from usa swimming to help families in need of financial assistance. The grant is applied towards membership tuition and annual dues for the neediest swami families. Race swami closes out the summer book club groups, having had more than 30 kids participate. The highest "readership award" was given to 4th grader madeleine stolz, who read more than 10,000 pages, spanning 22 books, throughout the summer (wow).
