“Race swami exists to empower youth to be champions in and out of the water for a lifetime. We provide opportunities in swimming for underserved youth from the west side of salt lake city. Out goal is to develop our participants physical and mental health in a fun and unique environment, deeply rooted in seflt-discipline, teamwork, and whole-body awaremenss. At the same, we value and welcome the rich cultural knowledge and experiences of the youth and communities we serve. Race swami is a 501 (c) (3) non profit club service the rose park, glendale and neighboring communities of salt lake city's west side.”

“January race swami was selected as one of 12 usa swimming programs nationally (and the only program located in the intermountain region) for the community impact grant. The grant, meant to increase competitive opportunities within usa swimming as well as assist in programming to underserved communities, is renewable annually for up to three years. February several high school-aged swamis competed in their respective high school state championship meets (east high school,west high school, and cypress high school). March race swami qualified several swimmers to the age group state championships (south davis rec center). All swimmers who competed qualified for outreach athlete grants, made possible through usa swimming foundation. April race swami held its annual swami speaker series featuring prominent guest speakers from the west side neighborhoods of salt lake city. Speakers share their experiences, challenges and successes with the swamis, allowing the kids to gain perspective from those who grew up in these communities and share similarities like ethnicity, schools, and opportunities. May several swamis took advantage of race swami's tutoring program to improve grades and master their courses, including math, science, spanish, and writing. Four volunteers (three of whom are swami alums) spent more than 100 hours assisting student-athletes for the 2023-24 school year. June swami's learn-to-swim lessons program opened summer programming for the fourth consecutive year, serving more than 175 children. All sessions offered were filled to capacity. These lessons are offered free to the westside community, as nearly 100% of the children enrolled qualify for free/reduced lunch at local schools. Lessons-goers ranged in ages 2 to 13, with six varying levels of skill-based swimming lessons. The learn-to-swim lessons program is funded by the dahle family fund and mccarthey family foundation. 10 children graduated from the program and are currently developing skills in the "pre-swami" group. July race swami attended a travel meet to santa barbara,ca for the annual semana nautica swim festival held at the los baos aquatic center on the shores of santa barbara. The team raised nearly 10,000 for 14 months so that swami swimmers, ranging in ages 9 to 17, could attend this storied long course meet, which attracts teams from all over the west. Funds raised covered travel, meet fees, food and hotel accommodations. August race swami held it's annual swami summer book club for all participants, covering five books from black and latino/a authors on a range of topics related to social justice and cultural differences. This year there were three reading level groups (elementary students, middle school students, and high school students) and the groups met weekly at the granger pool after practice. Coupled with volunteer book club leaders, senior swami swimmers helped facilitate the book club meetings and discussions. Senior swimmers also served as in-water instructors for the learn-to-swim swimming lessons program after acquiring lifeguard certification through the american red cross. Race swami partnered with salt lake open water (slow) in offering a free open water swimming clinic at the jordanelle reservoir for all swamis ages 13 and older. Armored with 16 experienced swimmers from slow and another 15 volunteers including swami coaches, parents and corporate sponsors, the swamis enjoyed a day of learning the finer points of open water swimming competition. After the swimming portion of the clinic the entire crew was treated to rico brand burritos and side dishes. Race swami and slow plan to offer another clinic in june 2025 and prepare swami swimmers for their first open water competition. September head coach claire jackson was honored as one of 30 recipients by the american swimming coaches association (asca) for the annual "30 under 30" national award, recognizing the 30 most prominent up-and-coming swim coaches in the country.
