IRS990/Desc0Kids Club - In 2017, Kids Club placed particular emphasis on deepening relationships with students to create a safe and welcoming environment for them to develop socially and emotionally. From January to June of 2017 and from September to December 2017, 41 students were enrolled in the after-school program and received daily academic support and services. Kids Club programming includes a nutritious snack, math support, homework help, reading support, computer practice, in school-based math and reading programs, life skills activities, Bible-based character development lessons, activities in the arts, physical movement time, writing workshops, and monthly experience and exposure reward field trips. The program has developed partnerships with local organizations to bring repeated experiences and workshops for more in depth learning in writing and the arts. Summer Club is a three week program in July which targeted developing reading and math skills and involved 16 students who were identified by their teachers as needing additional summer support. The program included one hour of reading and math support Monday through Friday, with an average of one volunteer per two students, allowing for personalized attention to meet each student's needs and help them grow in areas of learning deficits. Grade level reading and math skills were practiced and strengthened through interactive, hands on small group and individual activities. Casa Friends Camp is a month-long morning camp in August for 25 1st-5th grade students, and offered weekly themed activities from arts to nature, from science to sports, health and nutrition. Daily activities involved a team building activity, a short devotional/meditation session, followed by two hours of theme related activities. Our summer camp was supported by two local organizations in our science and nutrition weeks, as well as an average of five volunteers daily. Students also participated in three experience and exposure field trips.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy3Grp/Desc0Local Leaders Program - The 2016-2017 school year marked the completion of the third year of the Local Leaders program. The program is currently in its fourth year of operation. Throughout 2017, four leaders participated in the program with one leaving the program in March and another in July of 2017 with a desire to pursue other career opportunities. Throughout the year, the Local Leaders helped plan daily Kids Club activities, managed student behavior, led volunteers, and oversaw off-site field trips for the Kids Club after school program. In addition, one local leader assisted with the administration and planning of the mentoring program. During the summer, these leaders helped plan daily assignments and activities for both the Summer Club enrichment program and "Amigos de Casa" summer camp. Three of the four 2017 program participants are pursuing higher education.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActyOtherGrp/Desc0Other Program services is inclusive of the Soy Leader, Youth Programs, and Connections portions of the Casa Chirilagua programming portfolio. The Soy Lider program portfolio included English language learning classes, Grupo de Lideres parent leadership group, family dinner nights, and Spanish literacy tutoring. English language classes served 24 students in its inaugural semester from September to December of 2017, helping students master basic conversational skills applicable to daily life. The Grupo de Lideres provided leadership for the Kids Club parent group and hosted monthly meetings. Eight family dinner nights were hosted by Casa Chirilagua, local churches, and Alexandria partners providing dinner for the Kids Club community strengthening unity among parents and families. Spanish literacy tutoring was made available for adult students interested in developing their reading capacity. The Youth Programs portfolio offered weekly bible studies for middle school and high school youth from January to December, with a break from the Bible study programs for the summer months, serving an average of 25 young students each week, offering opportunities for spiritual development as well as providing a safe place for youth to share with trusting adults some of the difficult life circumstances they face while pointing them toward hope. The Youth Programs component also offered a month long summer program for 12 students offered Monday-Friday and focused on team building, devotional discussions, community empowerment and learning about healthy relationships. They also participated in field trips to the Natural History and the American History museums, and Great Waves Water Park. In additional to Bible Studies and summer programming, Casa offered after school programming for Middle School Students through its Casa Club program. Students met three times per week for two hours per session. Casa Club provides a supportive, encouraging environment where middle school students receive homework support, as well as life skill development in areas like financial literacy and college readiness. Once a week, students also engage in community building activities to promote a sense of belonging among the group. Casa Club served between 8-10 students consistently during the fall of 2017. Connections offers the opportunity for new individuals and organizations to learn about Casa, connect to the programs and potentially serve at Casa Chirilagua. Connections spans a breadth of meetings with the goal of strengthening old partnerships and building new relationships in the community. This includes workshops for spring break students to gatherings with individuals and organizations doing similar work in the City of Alexandria.
