Form 990, Page 6, Part VI, Line 11B

A draft of the form 990 is reviewed by the treasurer in detail before filing. A draft of the form 990 is provided to the full board before filing.

Form 990, Page 6, Part VI, Line 12C

The organization has a written conflict of interest policy. At least annually, each member of the board and management is required to review the policy and complete a disclosure and attestation of potential conflicts of interest. The organization has assigned a specific board member who is responsible for reviewing potential conflicts and working with the board to determine the most appropriate way to mitigate any risks associated. Board members determined to have a conflict of interest on a specific issue will be recused from voting on that specific issue.

Form 990, Page 6, Part VI, Line 15A

The board of directors considers the overall reasonability of the salary paid to the executive director based on salaries paid for similar positions at similar organizations an what the organization is currently able to afford. The board of directors establishes the executive director's salary independent from the exective director. The deliberation and determination of the executive director's compensation is contemporaneously documented in the board minutes.

Form 990, Page 6, Part VI, Line 19

The organizations governing documents and conflict of interest policy are available upon request by written request to the organization's offices. The organization's 990 is available through www.guidestar.org.

FORM 990 - ORGANIZATION'S MISSION

The mission of canines with a cause is to create sustainable programs and processes to effectively and holistically treat combat veterans with ptsd with well-trained, specialized service dogs that provide emotional therapy as companions. By rescuing dogs from kill shelters and using prison inmates as a means to train, we essentially save three lives: the veteran, the dog, and the inmate.

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4A

The mission of canines with a cause (cwac) is to create sustainable programs and processes to effectively and holistically pair veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress (pts) with well-trained assistance dogs. By adhering closely to our mission, cwac strives to move veterans from a state of pts toward a state of post-traumatic-growth (ptg). In committing to positive growth, we become one of many steps on the soldiers path toward healing. More importantly, were able to develop creativeindividualized training solutions that meet the mental, emotional and economic-stability challenges veterans face today. Cwac currently services veterans/active military in utah, northern nevada, southern idaho and western wyoming. We have dog training programs in the utah womens state prison, warm springs correctional in carson city, nv (incarcerated veterans training dogs) and orofino, idaho. The utah prison training programs are currently on hold due to the covid-19 pandemic. 2020 was a difficult year for the programs of cwac. For those with ptsd, the pandemic can trigger or affect ptsd symptoms. Hearing others talk about the pandemic as if they were fighting a war, or a battle with covid-19 or an invisible enemy may bring up uncomfortable feelings and memories. For people, whose trauma involved difficulty breathing, wearing masks or seeing others do so may remind them of that event. The negative impacts effecting cwac related to the virus include travel restrictions disrupting classes; issues with veteran relations; disruptions to staffing operations; increased program costs; and a drop in contributions. Staff hours have increased due to calling and texting our program participants for daily support and implementing online classes. A satellite program was designed to serve those who are unable to attend classes because of isolation. Due to the pandemic the services of cwac were at an all time high, over 75 veterans applied for our dog training program and currently are in some level of the program.

IRS990/Desc0THE MISSION OF CANINES WITH A CAUSE (CWAC) IS TO CREATE SUSTAINABLE PROGRAMS AND PROCESSES TO EFFECTIVELY AND HOLISTICALLY PAIR VETERANS SUFFERING FROM POST-TRAUMATIC STRESS (PTS) WITH WELL-TRAINED ASSISTANCE DOGS.

BY RESCUING DOGS FROM KILL SHELTERS AND USING PRISON INMATES AS A MEANS TO TRAIN, WE ESSENTIALLY SAVE THREE LIVES: THE VETERAN, THE DOG, AND THE INMATE.
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt1THE MISSION OF CANINES WITH A CAUSE (CWAC) IS TO CREATE SUSTAINABLE PROGRAMS AND PROCESSES TO EFFECTIVELY AND HOLISTICALLY PAIR VETERANS SUFFERING FROM POST-TRAUMATIC STRESS (PTS) WITH WELL-TRAINED ASSISTANCE DOGS.
