Mission and Program Overview

Mission

Provide accessible performing arts programming that enriches and engages the local community.

Present community-benefiting performing arts programs to enrich the lives of local residents.

Program Services

DescriptionGrantsExpenses
PRiMA began in 2010 with a group of passionate theatre professionals. Their aim: to create positive and fresh performing arts experiences in Lancaster. It was to be something contagious, energetic and contemporary, shaking up the cultural status quo. Often referred to as 'Lancaster's best kept arts secret', this primarily volunteer-led non-profit organization's patron base has tripled in the last two years. Executive Producer Mitch Nugent and his wife Diana founded PRiMA with the belief that the arts are at their best when they are culturally relevant and bent towards hope. The Nugents started by bringing together the region's finest talent for charity benefits and cabarets, gauging the community's interest in a new era of Downtown Lancaster theatrics. The community's response was astounding, allowing PRiMA to raise substantial funds for local charities, all while performing in crowded venues like Prince Street Cafe. PRiMA was stamped as 'on the scene' in 2011 with productions like Chess in Concert, and has since produced main stage shows, concerts, cabarets and cultural events that defy labels. Notable performances include a celebration of songs in minor keys in the round at a local historic grand banking hall, an 80's music celebration performance at the Chameleon Club and Elton John's AIDA with a 100 person choir and multi-cultural cast. iThroughout PRiMA's history and still true today, team members are united around the vision to enrich lives by creating beautiful experiences. The company is known for its innovation, not only in programming but with financial development as well. As a 501c3 community-benefit organization, PRiMA partners with businesses to produce 'smashthebox events.' These often take shape in the form of corporate events (random acts of culture mixed with marketing), as well as flash mobs. PRiMA's smashthebox involvement with the Lancaster Extraordinary Give helped raise over $4 million dollars in the last two years for over 200 local charities. These funding efforts, in addition to corporate and individual sponsorships, have made it possible for PRiMA to bring the region's finest talent together, creating contemporary musical theatre performances that a small city like Lancaster would otherwise not have access to. Artists like Broadway composer Jason Robert Brown have performed with PRiMA as well as Tony nominee Josefina Scaglione, Broadway's Maria from 'West Side Story.' Working closely with local colleges, PRiMA has completed over 15 internships through 2014. PRiMA's 60/30 program offers a season ticket to those under 30 years of age for the significantly reduced cost of $60.00 to encourage young subscribers. At this time in PRiMA's history, PRiMA can be best understood as a production company, choosing the best location for each unique production from a variety of venues. No matter where it is taking place, PRiMA events are always fresh, relevant and contagiously energetic experiences. These efforts are blazing a new path for the arts in the Lancaster region, engaging performing arts fans as well as a new generation of arts patrons. PRiMA's average patron age is 45, and the number of people attending performances has tripled since 2012. Lancaster is truly a more vibrant place thanks to PRiMA.$0$82,056
