| Expanding College for Exceptional Learners (EXCEL) is a pioneer in the post-secondary movement for students with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities. We have started and supported a program at the University of Central Missouri which is now self-sustaining. Other efforts include providing technical support to a program at the University of Missouri-St. Louis, also self-sustaining. In 2017, we received a grant to coordinate and support universities and colleges throughout the Midwest as they work to expand and enhance their programming. EXCEL is currently in an active partnership with Webster University (St. Louis) as it explores how to develop a program. We continue our work supporting and coordinating the Midwest Post-Secondary Inclusive Alliance (MIPSA), a consortium of universities and colleges throughout the Midwest that was an outcome of the 2017 grant. A part of the outcomes from 2018 and 2019 was a MIPSA counsel was formed with representation for the Institution of Higher Education (IHE) throughout Missouri. The Missouri Summit for Inclusive Post-secondary Education was held. Two semi-annual regional meetings were held in the fall of 2018 and spring of 2019. EXCEL worked on developing, supporting and embedding Student Leadership Teams and Alumni Network. Lastly, we have evaluated MIPSA and developed a sustainability plan. Some of the positive impacts EXCEL has had were on typically-developing university students, students with intellectual disabilities and their families and potential employers. To date, our two, highly successful university programs have provided 200 area students with a meaningful college experience. | $3,720 | $3,720 |

| IRS990ScheduleA/FactsAndCircumstancesTestTxt | 0 | Our Services: Expanding College for Exceptional Learners (EXCEL) is an organization dedicated to increasing post-secondary educational options for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities in the Kansas City regional area. To date, EXCEL has partnered with two area universities to provide funds to develop and implement specialized education for these students so that they can enjoy and benefit from a college experience. Our financial assistance supports program development, specialized educational programming, staff and parent training and student scholarships. EXCEL has also provided advice and inspiration to three other universities outside the Kansas City metropolitan area and has advised parents and educators on post-secondary programs. Prior to 2010, the outlook for Kansas City area students with intellectual disabilities who wanted to continue their education after high school was grim. To date, our two, highly successful university programs have provided 200 area students with a meaningful college experience. Our Board: The EXCEL board is a diverse group of community leaders, business professionals and educators. Three of our board members have doctoral degrees and are experts in educational planning, program development and evaluation. All of our board members have many years of community service experience and are dedicated to enhancing the lives of persons with disabilities. EXCEL has also convened an advisory board consisting of representatives of special education programs, disability support organizations, post-secondary experts and civic leaders to assist in program design and to broaden awareness of the needs of young adults with intellectual disabilities. Our Fundraising: Excel's fundraising is cyclical. We first partner with an educational institution and develop a program plan. Once a plan is in place, we then solicit funds for the program. To date, we have provided long term, program funding for one university and funds for scholarships and supplemental training to another. Fundraising is underway to expand scholarship opportunities available to students with limited financial means. EXCEL is currently in an active partnership with 1) the University of Missouri-Kansas City as it develops a post-secondary opportunity by funding student scholarships and 2) Webster University (St. Louis) as it explores how to develop a program. We continue our work supporting and coordinating with the Midwest Post-Secondary Inclusive Alliance (MIPSA), a consortium of universities and colleges throughout the Midwest that was an outcome of the 2017 grant. A part of the outcomes from 2018 and 2019 was a MIPSA counsel was formed with representation for the Institution of Higher Education (IHE) throughout Missouri.
