Major Activities

Activity 2
Winners Educational Philadelphia Trip - As part of the "We The People 9.17 Contest," fourteen contest winners and one parent/guardian received a trip to Philadelphia to participate in the September 17 Constituting America Performance and Awards Ceremony at the National Constitution Center (NCC). Their winning entries were placed on exhibition at the NCC, and the students starred in an educational documentary and music videos produced by Constituting America, highlighting their winning works! (This documentary was subsequently mailed out to over 4,500 schools and educators across America and made available on the internet for download, inspiring students by highlighting our winners who are "Today's Cultural Patriots, Tomorrow's Heroic Leaders")Winners Educational Philadelphia Trip - The two and a half day winners trip offered contest winners additional educational opportunities, as winners toured historic Philadelphia and participated in the National Constitution Center's Constitution Day Activities. Winners also dined with historical interpreters portraying George Washington, John Adams and Benjamin Franklin, and enjoyed time for independent sightseeing as well as behind the scenes tours of the city's many historic sites. Promotional press during the tour included TV interviews with local Philadelphia TV, and radio and print press exposure thereby helping to fulfill Constituting America's mission of impacting the youth culture by providing positive role models of youth who care about the U.S. Constitution and share their love of America's founding principles in hip and culturally relevant ways.
Activity 3
Adult Academic Forum - To engage adults in a thoughtful and informative discussion on America's founding principles, Constituting America launched the "90 in 90" initiative, an online forum that challenges adults to join with others around the nation in reading and discussing founding documents over a 90 Day period. The program is augmented by a notable group of constitutional scholars from across the country who write daily essays on the day's assigned reading. In 2010 Constituting America conducted a 90 Day study of the 85 Federalist Papers. In 2011, Constituting America divided the U.S. Constitution into a 90 day study, breaking it down into 90 small sections. Adult Academic Forum - Citizens were encouraged to join the conversation with constitutional scholars by contributing their own blog posts, and discussing the day's assignment on Facebook (35,000 fans by the end of 2011 and currently 44,000 fans in 2012), Twitter and other social media. As a result of this initiative, thousands of citizens gained a deeper understanding of the Constitution's meaning, and its relevancy today through the essays, commentaries and analysis provided by the seasoned scholars and historians. The 90 Day Studies are archived and searchable on the Constituting America website and utilized as educational resources by teachers, middle school through college.

IRS990/ActivityOther/Description0Patriot Clubs - Constituting America launched Patriot Clubs in 2011 to encourage adults and young people, ages 3-103 to form their own Patriot Clubs, and learn about the Constitution in fun and creative ways. Videos of Patriot Club meetings across the Nation are proudly displayed on our website, and Patriot Clubs share their meeting ideas on our website as well. As of December, 2011 we had 15 active Patriot Clubs across the country.
IRS990/ActivityOther/Description1The George Washington "We Are All Americans" School Speaker's Outreach and Speakers Initiative - During the last half of 2011, Constituting America launched the George Washington "We Are All Americans" School Speaker Initiative. This program features Janine Turner, Founder and Co-Chair of Constituting America, www.constitutingamerica.org, visiting schools, speaking to students about the importance of knowing the Constitution and the founding principles of our country, in a nonpartisan way. Using President George Washington's Farewell address as the theme of her remarks, Janine reminds students "We are more than just Democrats or Republicans; we are all Americans," and that knowing the Constitution transcends party or faction. Utilizing film and music from Constituting America's We The People 9.17 2010 and 2011 student winners, Janine inspires students to enter Constituting Americ's We The People 9.17 Contest, where they can win cash prizes, a trip to Philadelphia, national publicity, and a chance to star in a documentary by submitting short films, public service announcements, songs, essays, artwork and poetry, depending on their grade level. Janine visited three schools in the DFW area during the last months of 2011, and in 2012 has already visited eight more, including schools in Seattle, Washington, and in Georgia. To further outreach to schools, Constituting America sponsored a booth in 2011 at the Texas Association of School Administrators Midwinter Conference and Education Expo. Constituting America also mailed a letter in May, 2011 to the nearly 5,000 schools and self-identified teachers on our mailing list; and on August 1, 2011 our educators' mailing list received a DVD of our Road Trip Documentary to assist them with their Constitution Day Observances, required by federal law.
