Action NC is a community organization and citizen action group that educates, organizes, and mobilizes residents of low-wealth communities to represent their own interests on issues of social and economic concern. Through grassroots outreach and base-building, training and leadership development, and strategic campaign planning and execution, residents work together to determine their priorities and make action plans to win concrete improvements. Our issues include but are not limited to public education, health care access, financial justice, employment and wages, affordable housing and tenant rights, immigrant rights, voting rights, and local investment and development. Through house meetings, community meetings and forums, participation in public hearings, and direct action, residents take their concerns directly to public officials and private sector decision-makers and wage campaigns for specific reforms and a greater voice in decisions that affect them.

“OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 4: Health Care: Along with a partner organization, we worked in 2015 on our own and in coalition to get our state legislature and Governor to expand Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act. Our actions included a number of public events where we educated community residents on the advantages of expansion, and on how to organize to promote its passage, and where we advocated at press conferences or in the halls of the legislature for passage. We also continued to work to promote enrollment in the Affodable Care Act by including information about how to enroll in many of our outreach activities and public actions, and we worked with groups directly involved in enrollment to turn out persons to enrollment events. In addition, we organized a campaign called The ACA Is Here To Stay, in which we publicized the laws benefits and opposed repeated attempts by Congress to repeal and replace the law. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 5: Immigration: Our immigration organizing in 2015 included work with a partner organization to implement the Mecklenburg County school volunteer program for undocumented parents, fights against deportations and family separations of child migrants, lobbying and public action against bills at the legislature that restrict immigrant rights, protests against the Governor's involvement in a multi-state lawsuit to block implementation of President Obama's executive action making 5 million immigrant parents eligible to remain in the US under the DAPA program, and significant work with immigrant ally groups to win a driving privileges bill for undocumented immigrants, and in-state public higher education tuition for undocumented high school graduates. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 6: Neighborhood Quality of Life: Working with a partner organization, we have fought for and won a number of neighborhood infrastructure, city service, crime and safety, and zoning improvements, and we participate in the annual city budget process to encourage investment in undeveloped, low-wealth communities. In 2015 we worked in Durham with a coalition to to promote mixed-use, affordable housing development along transit corridors as well as reducing blight by streamlining the process for getting abandoned housing to non-profit developers. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 7: Tax & Budget Reform: In the 2015 legislative session we took action with partner allies to oppose regressive tax reforms that favor corporations and the wealthy at the expense of the social safety net, public education and teacher pay, community and mental health care services, and other programs vital to low-wealth communities. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 8: Tenant Rights and Affordable Housing: Working with a partner organization, we have organized in a number of apartment complexes and mobile home parks in East Charlotte to win correction of code violations. Our victories have included repair of and fines for numerous unsafe and unsanitary conditions, and an end to abusive management practices, including illegal water and utility billing practices that have included tens of thousands of dollars of rebates by the state utilities commission to unfairly charged tenants. We have also protested unjust treatment of undocumented tenants and forced a change in management in three complexes where these abuses were widespread. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 9: Voting Rights & Engagement: We work with a partner organization to promote non-partisan electoral participation and voter protection among traditionally disenfranchised and under-represented constituencies. We have worked on our own and with other groups to oppose racial gerrymandering, and are plaintiffs in a lawsuit challenging North Carolina's failure to comply with the requirements of the National Voter Registration Act. We are also active in North Carolinas State Voices table, and ran a voter registration program in September and October of 2015 knocking on over 10,000 doors to test better ways to register New American Majority vo”

| IRS990/Desc | 0 | Employee Rights: We have been a primary community partner of the Raise Up campaign organized to raise worker wages to $15 per hour, and have participated in and helped organize a number of press events, rallies and actions to build a base of support and develop community leadership to grow that base of support. In Charlotte we launched a campaign to win a $15 minimum wage for city employees in December 2015. In addition, to promote job and wage growth, we worked successfully in 2015 to limit interest rate hikes by the Federal Reserve that would slow that growth in communities of color still nowhere near recovered from the economic collapse of 2007. The campaign also includes a demand that representative bodies of the Federal Reserve meet their mandate to mirror the communities serve, rather than remain dominated by white bankers and financial service industry representatives. |

We are also active in North Carolinas State Voices table, and ran a voter registration program in September and October of 2015 knocking on over 10,000 doors to test better ways to register New American Majority vo |
