Circle the wagons is a utah based non-profit organization that provides survivors of violent crime, their family members and their friends with information and resources to help them recover from the trauma of their experience. Circle the wagons founder vickie walker launched the organization to support people who are in the unfortunate position of having to cope in the aftermath of a violent crime without adequate support and information. Vickies first hand experience began when her husband jeff was killed during the trolley square rampage on february 12, 2007 in salt lake city, utah at the trolley square mall. Her son, a.j., 16-years old at the time, was also shot but miraculously survived. The incredible support of family and friends who circled the wagons around vickie and her family ultimately helped them find the courage to move on after this horrific event. “Twenty-twenty has been no ordinary year. The pandemic caused us to pivot and make some important changes within our organization. After extensive research within the organization, as well as the community, the board unanimously voted to rename the ten-year old organization. Now known as circles of comfort. Our staff and supporters look forward to the expansion of our programs. We continued to offer support and resources to innocent survivors of violent crime but we also expanded our community outreach and programs to also support families who have experienced the trauma of a sudden and unexpected death. We continued to train first responders and community organizations via video conferencing. The number of people who received training in 2020 were approximately 200. In the past ten years circles of comfort has distributed approximately 3,500.00 cans of comfort, trained and/or presented to approximately 1,500+ first responders and community members, as well as maintaining a current list of resources on our website from all 50 states.”
