Circle the wagons is a utah based non-profit organization that provides survivors of violent crime, their family members and their friends with information and resources to help them recover from the trauma of their experience. Circle the wagons founder vickie walker launched the organization to support people who are in the unfortunate position of having to cope in the aftermath of a violent crime without adequate support and information. Vickies first hand experience began when her husband jeff was killed during the trolley square rampage on february 12, 2007 in salt lake city, utah at the trolley square mall. Her son, a.j., 16-years old at the time, was also shot but miraculously survived. The incredible support of family and friends who circled the wagons around vickie and her family ultimately helped them find the courage to move on after this horrific event. “We provide a 96-hour survival guide by means of several outreach methods including the can of comfort. The can of comfort with the 96-hour survival guide contains simple guidance about how to give and receive support within the first 96 hours following the perpetration of a violent crime. During 2014, we achieved the following results: - completed and launched the redesign of ctw's website in january 2014. - distributed more than 500 cans of comfort to victims of violent crime in utah - provided training for more than 100 victims advocates across utah and approximately 50 west jordan city police officers. - ctw's executive director presented at local, state and national conferences on the topic victims' rights and advocacy. CIRCLE THE WAGONS FOUNDER VICKIE WALKER LAUNCHED THE ORGANIZATION TO SUPPORT PEOPLE WHO ARE IN THE UNFORTUNATE POSITION OF HAVING TO COPE IN THE AFTERMATH OF A VIOLENT CRIME WITHOUT ADEQUATE SUPPORT AND INFORMATION. VICKIES FIRST HAND EXPERIENCE BEGAN WHEN HER HUSBAND JEFF WAS KILLED DURING THE TROLLEY SQUARE RAMPAGE ON FEBRUARY 12, 2007 IN SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH AT THE TROLLEY SQUARE MALL. HER SON, A.J., 16-YEARS OLD AT THE TIME, WAS ALSO SHOT BUT MIRACULOUSLY SURVIVED. THE INCREDIBLE SUPPORT OF FAMILY AND FRIENDS WHO CIRCLED THE WAGONS AROUND VICKIE AND HER FAMILY ULTIMATELY HELPED THEM FIND THE COURAGE TO MOVE ON AFTER THIS HORRIFIC EVENT. BY SHARING HER EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE, VICKIE HOPES TO HELP OTHERS FIND THE SUPPORT THEY NEED TO HEAL MORE QUICKLY AND FIND JOY IN LIFE AGAIN. |
