Mission

UID seeks to establish community centers in urban poor areas of African, Southeast Asian, and Middle Eastern cities.

Program Services

The primary work of UID was conducted through the regional coordinator, working from Marseille, France. In addition to salary expenses, most of the project funds were associated with fund development in the United States, followed by capacity building and field supervision in North Africa, with a few key staff recruiting trips. Capacity building and recruiting happen in tandem, with training for work in urban poverty settings that including subjects like resiliency, anti-burnout and community engagement strategies. These trainings/recruiting meetings reached a minimum of over 905 participants from, Ethiopia (25), Colombia (220), Chile (89), Argentina (145), Mexico (13), Mauritania (7), Albania (11), France (45) and the United States (350), with at least an additional 60 participants trained online in community engagement strategies and community development follow-up coaching.$0$85,095
In Mauritania, the UID community center continued its urban agriculture and health education activities, including partnerships with local schools, benefiting 30 students and their wider families, plus a continued partnership with SAFIA/UNICEF, training 220 young women over the course of two modules in resiliency, psychological tools for trauma and overcoming learning disabilities, in addition to the ongoing nutrition and urban agriculture trainings. The program however had to be put on pause in June, due to volunteer staff health reasons. We are actively working to recruit and train more staff and volunteers, with the hope of restarting the project in late 2026 or 2027.$0$21,919
In Egypt, the partnership with Seeds of Hope community center continues to see strong local initiative, as the project continues with now more remote supervision, impacting over 180 individuals with a combination of language skill courses, leadership, and Sudanese cultural expression.$0$801
