Peru usaid: since its launch in august of 2011, the pathways access initiative has supported u.s. Corporations seeking supplier diversity and inclusion in peru by identifying, training and certifying women-owned businesses that qualify as diverse suppliers of goods and services. This collaboration between weconnect, usaid and the us department of state has expanded to include support from the women president's organization, avina, adex, promperu and other trade support organizations. Weconnect and the goldman sachs 10,000 women program in peru have co-hosted trainings in lima, puno, and arequipa for over 150 women on effective strategies for entering new markets. Select certified women's business enterprises were invited by weconnect to participate in a wal-mart dot com trade show in san francisco in february 2011 to meet wal-mart buyers.

Activity 3

India: a number of roundtables were held in 2011 to develop opportunities for women-owned businesses and corporate members. Additionally, weconnect worked with the world bank, accenture, the un international trade centre (itc), and the self-employed women's association (sewa) to develop the skills of hundreds of members of sewa gitanjali's waste-pickers. Their continuing objective is to develop a sustainable income and improved livelihood prospects by training and engaging the sewa members in the production the sewa members in the production and marketing of office products made from 100% recycled paper. The project has already resulted in input wastage reduction by 88%, manufacturing cost reduction by 33%, productivity increase by 10 times, and earnings increase by 10 times now that sewa gitanjali is a competitively priced supplier to accenture.
