“The mission of the michigan breastfeeding network (mibfn) is to optimize state and community support of breastfeeding by leading collaborative actions for advocacy, education, and coalition building.”

“Organizational development: - hired new executive director - engaged in contractual agreements with individuals to provide project management and communications functions - wrote case for support document - participated with national partners related to breastfeeding support and the first foods movement - successfully completed first annual fundraising campaign programs and initiatives: - workplace support for nursing mothers project - increased awareness of federal "break time for nursing moms" law and advocated for working moms and the business case for breastfeeding - hospital mini grant partnership - provided consulting and intellectual property to 4 hospitals for completion of the mdhhs hospital grant, as part of the mibfn-coffective intiative to improve continuity of care, quality improvement, and breastfeeding rates - developed social media educational campaign - completed breastfeeding landscape analysis in flint, grand rapids, and detroit - provided referrals to the public through on-line inquiry form coalition network development: - held quarterly in-person coalition training meetings around the state. Coalition representatives from 30 counties have participated. - created numerous on-line tools for coalitions to use for education and promotion of breastfeeding - began compiling an on-line breastfeeding coalition directory - included a role for the local breastfeeding coalition when developing programs and funding proposals”
