Since our incorporation in 2008, our work has been the following - we identify, empower, and employ local community leaders who have a mission to transform the lives of children in the kibera slum of nairobi, kenya. More specifically,we build schools where children can access nutrition, learning, health care,music, and dance. To support our school-building projects, we lead volunteer trips to stretch the boundaries of cross-cultural learning and service. These trips are designed both to encourage global citizenship and to build long-term support for our programs/projects.

Mission and Program Overview

Mission

Since our incorporation in 2008, our work has been the following - we identify, empower, and employ local community leaders who have a mission to transform the lives of children in the kibera slum of nairobi, kenya. More specifically,we build schools where children can access nutrition, learning, health care,music, and dance. To support our school-building projects, we lead volunteer trips to stretch the boundaries of cross-cultural learning and service. These trips are designed both to encourage global citizenship and to build long-term support for our programs/projects.

Our mission is not simply to build schools. Crossing thresholds partners with grassroots leaders to create healthy and holistic learning environments that offer children a meaningful chance to break the cycle of poverty. Our schools also include feeding programs, medical care, and musical education.

Crossing thresholds has not only built but covers the operating expenses for 5 primary schools in the kibera slum. Operating expenses include feeding, teacher salaries, support staff, and a variety of extracurricular programs (music, dance, chess, computer literacy). Here is an overview of our five primary schools: 1) fafu-facing the future, which feeds and educates 512 students, 2)garden of hope which feeds and educates 437 students, 3)drug fighters orphanage/primary school which feeds and educates 330 students and serves as a permanent residence for 50 orphans, 4)center of hope which feeds and educates 209 students, 5) community pillars, which feeds and educates 283 students. In 2024 we continued the construction of our newest primary school,center of hope. Across all of our schools, we employed 119 kenyan teachers, strenghtend our tech program, and celebrated our award-winning music and programs.
