“We work with local community leaders to build schools where they are desperately needed. Learning is every child's right. When children go to school, they have a greater chance to live more productive and purposeful lives. Our mission is not simply to build schools. Crossing thresholds partners with grassroots leaders to create healthy and holistic learning environments that offer children a meaningful chance to break the cycle of poverty. Our schools also include feeding programs, medical care, and musical education. We facilitate travel opportunities for paying volunteers. These volunteers come to our schools to contribute their time and talent. They come to bear witness to the hardships and struggles of children worldwide. They come to connect, and to discover that making a difference is not always what you think. Since our incorporation in 2008, our approach has been the following - we identify, empower, and employ local community leaders who have a mission to transform the lives of children in the kibera slum of nairobi, kenya. We build schools where children can access nutrition, learning, health care, music, and dance. We lead volunteer trips to stretch the boundaries of cross-cultural learning and service. These trips often challenge participants involved and force them to consider what it means to be a global citizen in the world today.”
“Our student sponsorship/mentorship program grew in popularity. Over 100 north americans supported a student in one of our primary schools for the year. We offered two programs for sponsorship. The first program involves a financial commitment where the sponsor supports te child and covers the costs of his/her school fees, uniform, supplies, and two meals a day. The second program - our mentorship program, is a unique opportunity to have a significant relationship with one of our 7th or 8th grade students. The donation covers the cost for school fees, test fees, two meals a day, and medical checkups for an entire year. It also gives mentors an opportunity to connect with their student on a deeper level. There is an opportunity to skype four times a year with your student to offer words of encouragement and advice. In 2018, nearly 100 north american stook part in skype sessions with their student across the globe. Beginning early in the year, ct enlisted a kenyan organization called no means no to work in one of our schools. This dynamic organization has a mission to raise awareness around sexual violence, and to teach young girls the necessary tools to prevent such violence. The workships were extremely impactful and were extended to a second school. With the energy and guidance of long-time supporter david pedowitz, ct launched its micro-lending program. After vetting scores of business plans, david selected the first loan recipients and soon thereafter those funds were distributed. The community is extremely excited, and a long list of individuals is awaiting the next round of loans. In the fall, ct was asked to consider a new work site in puerto rico. Since ct had long been interested in expanding its humanitarian efforts to the western hemisphere, our interest was high. After a positive scouting trip, we hired rusty pedersen who has been raising funds and organizing trips for 2019. Inspired by the vision and encouragement of photographer phillip ennis, ct agreed to be the focal point of a documentary about the kibera slum. Shooting began june 2018 and continued in january 2019. The film should be released by june 2019.”

| IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc | 0 | OUR HIGH SCHOOL, WHICH OPENED BACK IN 2016, IS 100 MILES NORTH OF NAIROBI. IN 2018, OUR HIGH SCHOOL CONTINUED TO TAKE SHAPE. OF PARTICULAR INTEREST, THE FARM GREW EXPONENTIALLY WITH THE ADDITION OF COWS, GOATS, AND CHICKENS. THE FARM IS SUCESSFULLY PROVIDING THE SCHOOL'S FEEDING PROGRAM WITH AN ARRAY OF FRUITS, VEGETABLES, EGGS, MILK, AND PROTEIN. ADDITIONALLY, THE CONSTUCTION OF THE HIGH SCHOOL SCIENCE LAB CONTINUED, AND IS EXPECTED TO BE COMPLETED AND FULLY EQUIPPED BY THE END OF 2019. IN JANUARY OF 2018, WE WELCOMED OUR 3RD 9TH GRADE CLASS BRINGING THE STUDENT BODY TO APPROXIMATELY 150 STUDENTS. IN NOVEMBER 2019, WE WILL CELEBRATE THE FIRST GRADUATING CLASS. |

| IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy3Grp/Desc | 0 | THE START OF 2018 BEGAN ON THE HEELS OF A TERRIBLE TRAGEDY. ONE OF OUR SCHOOLS - THE GARDEN OF HOPE PRIMARY SCHOOL BURNED TO THE GROUND. EVERYTHING WAS LOST. BUT, THE TRAGIC WAS SHORT LIVED. WITH A RESPONSE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENEROSITY FROM OUR SUPPORTERS, WE ORGANIZED A TRIP IN JUNE TAGGED "THE BIG BUILD". OUR MISSION WAS TO REBUID THE GARDEN OF HOPE SCHOOL IN A SINGLE WEEK. SIXTY-SEVEN PEOPLE SIGNED UP FOR THE TRIP AND WORKED SIDE BY SIDE WITH LOCAL SKILLED AND UNSKILLED LABOR. AT THE END OF THE WORK WEEK,A NEW AND GREATLY IMPROVED SCHOOL WAS DEDICATED FOR OVER 350 KENYAN CHILDREN. THROUGHOUT THE YEAR, CROSSING THRESHOLDS BROUGHT 82 TRIP PARTICIPANTS TO WORK IN KENYA. |

| IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActyOtherGrp/Desc | 0 | OUR STUDENT SPONSORSHIP/MENTORSHIP PROGRAM GREW IN POPULARITY. THE FILM SHOULD BE RELEASED BY JUNE 2019. |
