THE EMERGENT NEEDS FUND ALSO SUPPORTED ORGANIZATIONS WORKING ON PROVIDING BASIC NEEDS SUPPORT (INCLUDING FOOD, HOUSING, AND INCOME SECURITY), LEGAL DEFENSE, AND IMMIGRANT RIGHTS ADVOCACY. 11 GRANTS WERE MADE FROM THE RAPID RESPONSE FUND TO ADDRESS CRITICAL TIME-SENSITIVE NEEDS. RAPID RESPONSE FUND GRANTS WERE MADE FOR THINGS SUCH AS SUPPLIES FOR COVID-TESTING SITES, CLEANING/SAFETY SUPPLIES, MOBILE CLINICS, TELEHEALTH AND OTHER EMERGENCY NEEDS.

THE SCHOLARSHIP HELPS THESE STUDENTS WHO ARE OFTEN THE FIRST IN THEIR FAMILIES TO ATTEND COLLEGE AND WHO FACE TREMENDOUS LANGUAGE, CULTURAL, AND FINANCIAL BARRIERS. A TOTAL OF 44 INDIVIDUAL SCHOLARSHIPS WERE AWARDED IN 2021 TO ASSIST WITH THE COST OF POST-SECONDARY EDUCATION. IN ADDITION TO SCHOLARSHIP ASSISTANCE, LOTUS SCHOLARS ATTEND A 3-DAY COLLEGE PREP WORKSHOP TO LEARN SKILLS SUCH AS TIME MANAGEMENT, FINANCIAL AID, AND BUDGETING. EACH YEAR, SHENG-YEN LU FOUNDATION DEDICATES A PORTION OF ITS ANNUAL FUNDING TOWARDS SPECIAL PROJECTS. 100% OF FUNDS RAISED FOR DISASTER RELIEF EFFORTS GO TOWARDS REBUILDING THE LIVES OF THOSE AFFECTED BY DISASTERS.
