Mission

Sheng-yen lu foundation combines compassion and philanthropy with strategic grant-making to advance quality health and education for all. The foundation also awards scholarships and makes grants for disaster relief and recovery.

Major Activities

Activity 2
Sheng-yen lu foundation made eight education grants in 2012. The first grantee was 826 seattle, a nonprofit writing center that helps students from ages 6-18 with writing skills, after school homework, and english language learning-all free of charge. The second grantee was city year, working in high poverty schools to improve student attendance, behavior, and course performance through academic and socio-emotional support. The third grantee was powerful schools' "school readiness project." the fourth grant was awarded to technology access foundation which operates after school programs targeting underprivileged students through innovative programs based on stem education. The fifth grant went to college access project to help first generation and underprivileged students realize their potential for successful acceptance to and completion of college. The sixth grant was for renton area youth and family services' program to increase high school graduation. The seventh grant was for treehouse's education engagement program. The eighth grant was for year up's program that trains and connects low income youth to livable wage jobs in the information technology sector.
Activity 3
Sheng-yen lu foundation made three disaster relief related grants in 2012. The first went to peace winds america to help japan continue with earthquake and tsunami recovery. The second grant went to the tibetan village project to work on earthquake recovery in the yushu area. The third grant went to mercy corps' mobile health units travelling across remote regions in ethiopia.
