Governance Explanations

Form 990, Part VI, Section A, line 2

Lana Vasquez and Kimberly Mora have a family relationship. Mike Rovner and Janet Rovner have a family relationship. Brian Gibson and Jessica Gibson have a family relationship.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 11B

The Form 990 was prepared by an independent certified public accounting firm. The Form 990 was reviewed in detail by the CEO, Treasurer, and Bookkeeper prior to filing. The reviewed Form 990 is then provided to the board of directors prior to filing with the IRS.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 12C

At each board meeting, each board member and officer is required to complete and sign a conflict of interest questionnaire. These are reviewed by the US Operations Manager and kept on file at the corporate office. Should any potential conflicts of interest be disclosed, the board member or officer would be asked to refrain from participation in any deliberation or decision with regard to matters affected by the relationship.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 15A

The CEO's compensation is set by the Board at each Board meeting. They compare CEO compensation for hundreds of national, state, and local non-profits, with close attention paid to California non-profits. They also discuss pastor's salaries in the US, and then consider the CEO's salary range per her responsibilities. The compensation approval process is documented in the board minutes. The organization does not compensate other officers or key employees. Therefore, Line 15b was answered no in accordance with the instructions.

Form 990, Part VI, Section C, line 19

The governing documents, conflict of interest policy and financial statements are available upon request.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc0Myanmar/Burma MinistryWe continue to care for 30 children in Yangon, Myanmar. We have a home for boys and one for girls. These 30 children were displaced and orphaned from Cyclone Nargis in 2008. We provide housing, food, medical, education, clothing & hygiene for each child in these homes. Since 2013, we have operated House of Hope, a drop-in center located in Myanmar. In 2017, the home continued to provide beds for about 10 street kids. It is a safe place for children to eat a warm meal, receive an education, and hear the Gospel. These children were once the thieves, scoundrels, and beggars on the streets. Now they are loved, safe, secure children who are excelling in school. Everyone in the community is seeing the change in their lives. In 2017, we also continued our annual Christmas outreach during which we bring Christmas to over 300 orphans, displaced villagers, men, women and children living inside Myanmar and along the war zone border, the slums, dump, and migrant villages in Thailand. Everywhere we go, we preach about the true meaning of Christmas and then we give the children a special surprise. The girls receive a doll and the boys receive a truck. For most of these children it is the first time they have ever received a gift in their lives. Every year we also hand out humanitarian aid supplies to the displaced villagers and impoverished families - including food, blankets, toiletries and clothes.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy3Grp/Desc0General MinistryIn 2017 we continued working hard to prevent child trafficking. For many of the children we work with, going to school will significantly lessen their chances of being exploited. Education is an important key to a successful future because it will help them to rise above the cycle of poverty and discrimination that is so prevalent in many of the places in which we work. In 2017 we funded the protection and provision for approximately 145 children in the rescue homes we support, and helped over 500 children through prevention projects. The preventative projects and programs we support include: food & medical support, education support education support including tuition & school supplies, vocational training, and other humanitarian projects. In all that we do we continue bringing the Good News of Jesus Christ. Jesus not only fed the people, but He also preached the Gospel everywhere He went. At Life Impact Int'l our heart is to demonstrate the LOVE and POWER of God.We continue to see orphans, rebel soldiers, refugees, displaced peoples and children alike receive His love and hope into their hearts through: evangelistic outreaches & crusades, leadership training seminars, men's & women's meetings, church ministry, children's ministries, and discipleship projects. Also in 2017, ten teams from US churches went to Thailand to work with the staff and children of Life Impact Thailand Foundation, and also to help with the prevention projects that we support.

IRS990ScheduleF/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt0In 2017, Life Impact International (Life Impact) granted funds to Life Impact Thailand Foundation (the Foundation), an organization formed by Life Impact in order to be able to operate and pay employees in Thailand. The Foundation is not a subsidiary of Life Impact, however the CEO of Life Impact sits on the board of the Foundation. The other board members of the Foundation are Thai nationals who have a history of working for Life Impact and its CEO. In 2017, Life Impact made cash grants to the Foundation for the purpose of carrying out the programs in Thailand which accomplish Life Impact's mission. Life Impact exercises close oversight and supervision of the assets and monetary funds granted to the Foundation. The CEO of Life Impact resides in Thailand. She approves all budgets and requests for operating funds submitted by the supervisors of the charitable projects and activities being conducted by the Foundation in Thailand. The CEO then observes and monitors the use of the funds, as she is regularly involved in the daily overseas operations. Funds are granted based on approved budget requests. The Thai staff are required to spend according to their approved budgets and to turn in receipts at the end of each month. The receipts are reviewed by a staff accountant on site. The CEO receives regular reports from the accountant. The CEO is based in the Thailand office and visits the various homes several times a week and other project locations several times per month. She also visits the children's home in Myanmar at least twice a year, with other Life Impact staff members visiting the Myanmar site every three months or more. The Life Impact accountant residing in the U.S. also visits the overseas operations at least annually to provide oversight and collect reports. And several Life Impact board members also visit the foreign project sites once or twice a year. Another Life Impact board member with extensive construction expertise is directly involved with construction projects overseas, overseeing their planning and execution. Life Impact International has written grant agreements in place with grant recipients receiving significant amounts.
IRS990ScheduleF/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt1The organization tracked expenditures in accordance with cash basis of accounting.

IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt1The Form 990 was prepared by an independent certified public accounting firm. The Form 990 was reviewed in detail by the CEO, Treasurer, and Bookkeeper prior to filing. The reviewed Form 990 is then provided to the board of directors prior to filing with the IRS.
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt2At each board meeting, each board member and officer is required to complete and sign a conflict of interest questionnaire. These are reviewed by the US Operations Manager and kept on file at the corporate office. Should any potential conflicts of interest be disclosed, the board member or officer would be asked to refrain from participation in any deliberation or decision with regard to matters affected by the relationship.
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt3The CEO's compensation is set by the Board at each Board meeting.
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt4The governing documents, conflict of interest policy and financial statements are available upon request.
