| IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc | 0 | NCEF EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT CENTER THE NCEF EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT CENTER IS LOCATED ON THE CAMPUS OF FLORIDA SOUTHWESTERN STATE COLLEGE, COLLIER CAMPUS, AND OPERATED BY COLLIER CHILD CARE RESOURCES (CCCR). THE PROGRAM EARNED REACCREDITATION FROM THE NATIONAL ACCREDITATION COMMISSION (NAC) FOR EARLY CARE AND EDUCATION; A FIVE STAR RATING FROM THE EARLY LEARNING COALITION OF SOUTHWEST FLORIDA THROUGH ITS SOUTHWEST FLORIDA STARS PROGRAM; AND THE GOLD SEAL OF QUALITY ACCREDITATION FROM THE STATE OF FLORIDA. THIS FACILITY SERVES UP TO 109 CHILDREN AGES 6 WEEKS TO 5 YEARS OLD. DURING THE 2014-2015 FISCAL YEAR, THE PROGRAM SERVED OVER 300 CHILDREN. THE CHILDREN IN THE PROGRAM ARE DIVERSE WITH FAMILIES FROM VARIOUS SOCIO-ECONOMIC BACKGROUNDS AND INCOMES RANGING FROM BELOW THE POVERTY LEVEL TO NON-NEEDY. IN THIS PROGRAM, 75 PERCENT OF THE CHILDREN WHO ATTEND ARE FROM LOW-INCOME, WORKING FAMILIES AND RECEIVE PARTIAL FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE THROUGH CCCR. OF THE CHILDREN ENROLLED, 60 PERCENT LIVE AT OR BELOW THE FEDERAL POVERTY LEVEL. WE STRIVE TO INSTILL IN EACH CHILD A DESIRE FOR LIFELONG LEARNING. OUR REGGIO EMILIA-INSPIRED METHODOLOGY ACKNOWLEDGES THAT CHILDREN HAVE THE RIGHT TO BE RECOGNIZED AS CONSTRUCTORS OF THEIR OWN EXPERIENCES AND THAT THEIR EDUCATION IS BASED ON INTERRELATIONSHIPS. CHILDREN ARE ENCOURAGED TO GROW THROUGH CURIOSITY. THE ENVIRONMENT IS RECOGNIZED AS THE THIRD TEACHER. OUR FACILITIES ARE FILLED WITH NATURAL LIGHT, ORDER AND BEAUTY, WHERE EVERY MATERIAL IS CONSIDERED FOR ITS PURPOSE AND EVERY CORNER IS EVER-EVOLVING TO ENCOURAGE CHILDREN TO DELVE DEEPER AND DEEPER INTO THEIR INTERESTS. OUR GREEN BUILDING MEETS LEED CERTIFICATION STANDARDS AND IS AN ASTHMA-FRIENDLY SCHOOL (PLATINUM STATUS). OUR STAFF STRIVES TO CREATE A POSITIVE, WARM ENVIRONMENT THAT PROMOTES THE PHYSICAL, COGNITIVE AND SOCIAL GROWTH OF THE CHILDREN. STAFF MEMBERS ARE REQUIRED TO HAVE A MINIMUM OF 20 TRAINING HOURS; HOWEVER, MOST HAVE EXCEEDED 30 HOURS. MORE THAN HALF OF OUR STAFF HAVE AN ASSOCIATE'S DEGREE OR HIGHER. ALL STAFF HAVE BEEN TRAINED IN CPR AND FIRST AID AS WELL. OUR "ATELIERISTA" (TEACHING ARTIST) PROVIDES AUTHENTIC ART EXPERIENCES BY PROVIDING STUDENTS WITH RESOURCES AND MATERIALS TO ENCOURAGE THEIR CREATIVE PROCESS. THE TEACHING ARTIST WORKS WITH THE CHILDREN DAILY IN SMALL GROUPS AND INDIVIDUALLY. OUR PROGRAM FOLLOWS A COMPREHENSIVE, RESEARCH-BASED AND RESEARCH-PROVEN CURRICULUM CALLED CREATIVE CURRICULUM. ALONGSIDE THE CURRICULUM, WE USE THE TEACHING STRATEGIES GOLD COMPREHENSIVE ASSESSMENT TO CREATE A DEVELOPMENTAL PORTFOLIO FOR EACH CHILD. OUR TEACHERS DOCUMENT DAILY ACTIVITIES AND DEVELOPMENTAL MILESTONES. THE PORTFOLIO CONTINUES WITH THE CHILD THROUGHOUT THEIR YEARS AT NCEF EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT CENTER. THE ASSESSMENT ALLOWS TEACHERS AND PARENTS TO OBSERVE PROGRESS THROUGH THE YEARS AND DISCOVER WHERE EXTRA ATTENTION IS NEEDED. |
