Mission

To conserve and restore the natural and cultural resources of the chesapeake bay watershed for the enjoyment, education, and inspiration of this and future generations. We serve as a catalyst for change, advancing strong public and private partnerships, developing and using new technology, and empowering environmental stewardship.

Major Activities

Activity 2
John smith trail: as the national park service's principal partner in implementing the trail, the chesapeake conservancy has led the process of bringing the captain john smith chesapeake national historic trail to life. The trail provides a powerful catalyst for educating citizens about the chesapeake bay and offers new opportunities for cooperative conservation, expanded public access and tourism. In 2011, our principle activity associated with the trail was helping the nps develop the trail conservation strategy and guide the implementation of the james river segment plan.
Activity 3
Conservation corridors: the conservancy is working in partnership with the u.s. Fish and wildlife service to provide technical assistance and public outreach services that seek to promote the conservation of functioning ecosystems, including the protection and restoration of critical fish and wildlife habitat along the great rivers of the chesapeake. One example of our work is the community based conservation project, envision the james.
