Mission and Program Overview

Mission

Greener partners' mission is to strengthen community health through urban farming, fresh food access, and food education. Since our founding in 2008, we have partnered with schools and hospitals to address barriers to healthy food and to develop underutilized land into productive urban farms. Our programs ignite life-long healthy eating habits through gardening, cooking, and nutrition education and through free fruit and vegetable distributions.

Greener partners' mission is to build healthier communities through food, farms and education.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc0GREENER PARTNERS IS DISTINGUISHED IN THE LOCAL FOOD MOVEMENT BY OUR ABILITY TO COMBINE FOOD ACCESS WITH EDUCATION. OUR MOBILE FARM EXPLORER PROGRAM IS A 24-FOOT LIVING, FARM ON WHEELS THAT ALLOWS CHILDREN AND FAMILIES TO ENGAGE WITH FOOD FROM SEED TO PLATE EVEN IF THEY DON'T HAVE ACCESS TO A COMMUNITY GARDEN OR CAN'T VISIT A FARM. IN 2016, 8,500 STUDENTS FROM 60 PARTNER SCHOOLS IN SIX COUNTIES PARTICIPATED IN OUR UNIQUE BRAND OF NUTRITION EDUCATION THROUGH OUR TWO FARM EXPLORER TRUCKS WHERE THEY COULD HARVEST, SMELL, TOUCH AND TASTE FRESH FOOD, OFTEN FOR THE FIRST TIME. AT GUILD HOUSE FARM, TEENS PARTICIPATED IN MORE THAN 500 HOURS OF OUR SOL (SUSTAINABLE ORGANIC LOCAL) FOOD YOUTH LEADERSHIP PROGRAMMING, A YEAR-LONG JOB TRAINING PROGRAM WHERE TEENS LEARN ABOUT FOOD JUSTICE, SUSTAINABLE FARMING AND SEASONAL COOKING WHILE BUILDING TEAMWORK, LEADERSHIP AND JOB SKILLS.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy3Grp/Desc0ON GREENER PARTNERS' FARMS, VISITORS EXPERIENCE THE FARM ECOSYSTEM AND LEARN ABOUT THE PLANTS THAT NOURISH US AND HOW DELICIOUS FRESH FOOD CAN BE. IN 2016, WE HOSTED MORE THAN 3,000 STUDENTS FOR FIELD TRIPS TO OUR FARM HUBS WHERE STUDENTS GOT THEIR HANDS DIRTY PLANTING AND HARVESTING VEGETABLES WHILE LEARNING ABOUT SOIL SCIENCE AND HOW THE NUTRIENTS THAT HELP PLANTS GROW AND THRIVE ALSO HELP OUR BODIES THRIVE. PARTICIPANTS RANGED IN AGE FROM PRE-SCHOOL TO COLLEGE-AGE AND ENGAGED IN EDUCATION PROGRAMS, VOLUNTEER DAYS AND WORKSHOPS. WE ADDITIONALLY HOSTED SERVICE DAYS AT BOTH FARMS FOR CORPORATIONS AND COMMUNITY SERVICE ORGANIZATIONS WITH APPROXIMATELY 200 PARTICIPANTS.
