Mission and Program Overview

Mission

Greener partners' mission is to strengthen community health through urban farming, fresh food access, and food education. Since our founding in 2008, we have partnered with schools and hospitals to address barriers to healthy food and to develop underutilized land into productive urban farms. Our programs ignite life-long healthy eating habits through gardening, cooking, and nutrition education and through free fruit and vegetable distributions.

Greener partners' mission is to build healthier communities through food, farms and education.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc0THE ORGANIZATION OPERATES FARM-TO-SCHOOL PROGRAMS WHICH CONNECT YOUNG PEOPLE TO HOW FOOD GROWS AND WHERE IT COMES FROM, EXPOSING THEM TO SEASONAL FOOD GROWN ON OUR FARMS AND URBAN GARDEN, WHILE ALSO ENCOURAGING HEALTHY EATING AND YOUTH LEADERSHIP. OUR SIGNATURE FARM-TO-SCHOOL PROGRAM, FARM EXPLORER , INCLUDES OUR SEED TO SNACK CURRICULUM AND SOL FOOD (SUSTAINABLE, ORGANIC, LOCAL) YOUTH EMPOWERMENT PROGRAM. THE ORGANIZATION WORKED WITH 30 PARTNER SCHOOLS IN 6 COUNTIES, PROVIDING OVER 5500 ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CHILDREN WITH FRESH VEGETABLES, HEALTHY SNACKS, AND NUTRITION EDUCATION. TWO HUNDRED TEENAGERS PARTICIPATED IN SOL, OUR GARDENING, COOKING, AND LEADERSHIP PROGRAMS. IN ADDITION, OVER 1750 CAMPERS PARTICIPATED IN FARM EXPLORER PROGRAMMING DURING THE SUMMER MONTHS. THE FARM EXPLORER TRUCK VISITED 26 PUBLIC EVENTS THROUGHOUT THE SEASON, WITH ENGAGING OVER 4300 PEOPLE IN LEARNING ABOUT THE SCIENCE OF AGRICULTURE, SEASONAL EATING, AND HEALTHY RECIPES. THESE EVENTS INCLUDED A PHILLIES GAME, THE FRANKLIN INSTITUTE, FAIRMOUNT PARK'S PLAY-A-PALOOZA, ST. CHRISTOPHER'S HOSPITAL, AND THE TYLER ARBORETUM PUMPKIN FESTIVAL.
