“Today's college students acquire too much student debt to complete college. Earn to learn operates an innovative and successful matched savings scholarship program. Combining student savings with scholarships and financial education, we help low to moderate income students obtain a college degree and graduate debt free ready to enter the workforce. Through a multi-investor strategy that includes students, universities and private philanthropists, pell eligible students earn a college degree in arizona. For the population we serve in arizona we are proving to: outperform first year college retention rates; outperform college persistence rates; outperform graduation rates for pell eligible students; and, reduce, if not eliminate, the need for student loan debt; in comparison 61% of arizona university students graduate within six years. For pell recipients in arizona, the six-year graduation rate is roughly 50%. Our proven solution empowers underserved populations to graduate college. Earn to learn operates the largest and most successful matched-savings scholarship program in the country. Earn to learn is a revolutionary "savings to scholarship" program. Through matched-savings scholarships, financial capability education, and success coaching, eligible students who complete the personal finance training program and save 500 in an individual development account (ida), can receive an 8:1 match on their savings from one of the arizona state universities. The 4,000 scholarship per academic year can be applied to tuition and tuition-related costs at arizona state university (asu), northern arizona university (nau) or the university of arizona (ua). Earn to learn is a collaborative effort between the arizona board of regents, the universities and numerous community partners, both education partners and private sector workforce development collaborators. Youth from low to moderate income families who want to get a college degree face tough barriers in arizona. Arizona has the 5th highest poverty rate in the united states. Access to higher education is key to the eradication of poverty. As workforce becomes more sophisticated, the need for advanced degrees and post-secondary education will only continue to grow. Arizona lags behind other states in the number of adults who have earned certificates or degrees beyond high school. And, only 18 percent of arizona public high-school students will graduate from college in six years. Minority and underrepresented students are at greater risk of not attending college because of one overarching factor: cost. Youth from low-to moderate-income families in arizona stand to benefit the most from our intervention. In arizona this population continues to face significant barriers to obtaining a college degree and our proven method will get them to the finish line and beyond. Our collaboration with colleges and universities in arizona coupled with private philanthropy is making the difference between not finishing and graduating workforce ready. First-year retention rate for students is nearly 90%, persistence rate over 95% and a six year graduation rate approaching 80%. Our matched scholarship method removes the most important barrier to a college degree: cost. We are a statewide program creating social change with broad and extraordinary impact with 67% first generation students and 84% minorities. We serve 2,000 annually and 2,700 students have opened matched savings accounts since inception. Students have saved 3 million and earned 24 million in matched scholarships. Earn to learn participants graduate with little to no student loan debt. Their average student-loan debt is under 10,000, compared to the arizona university system average student loan debt of approximately 23,000. There has been no innovation in financing a college education in 30 years. Our country cannot afford to continue with its current model and expect different results. Earn to earn has created a unique solution that is attract”
