The Beth Longwell Foundation is a California Benefit Corporation, organized to provide charitable assistance to the general public by supporting charities and organizations in the areas of childhood education, lung cancer research, grief support for children who have lost a parent, and others that honor the memory of Elisabeth J. Longwell.

Beth Longwell Foundation 2018 AccomplishmentsIn 2018 the Beth Longwell Foundation awarded grants to eight Bay Area agencies. Recipients of Foundation grants exemplify Beth's visions and hopes for advancement in non-smoking lung cancer research, grief support for those who have lost a loved one, education, and the arts. The following are the Foundation's 2018 grant recipients:Alum Rock Counseling Center, San Jose, CAThe Alum Rock Counseling Center (ARCC) delivers programs designed to keep at-risk youth safe, attending school and living lives that are free of juvenile justice and dependency systems, substance abuse and violence. The Foundations grant will support the Ocala Mentoring Program which provides at-risk middle school students with academic and emotional support with the goal of preventing them from falling into a cycle of school failure and delinquency. Program services include group and one-on-one mentoring, life skills classes, counseling, family engagement and enrichment activities. ARCC is a three-time grant recipient and received a grant of $3,000.Bill Wilson Center, Santa Clara, CAThe Bill Wilson Center provides direct services to more than 6,000 clients in Santa Clara County. The Centers Healing Heart Program is a grief counseling program for children, ages 5-17, who have experienced the loss of a parent or loved one. The grant will help fund the expenses of the 9-week Healing Heart Program which is offered five times per year. The Bill Wilson Center is a second-time grant recipient and received a grant of $2,500.Bonnie J. Addario Lung Cancer Foundation, San Carlos, CAThe Bonnie J. Addario Lung Cancer Foundation(ALCF) is devoted exclusively to eradicating lung cancer through research, awareness, education, early detection, and treatment. ALCF is currently conducting the Epidemiology of Young Lung Cancer (EoYLC) Study which is an initiative to identify the clinical characteristics and potential risk factors for lung cancer in individuals under the age of 40. The Foundations grant will be used to help fund the cost of the epidemiology patient questionnaire and electronic data capture system. ALCF is a five-time grant recipient and received a grant of $7,500.Childrens Musical Theater, San Jose, CAThe Childrens Musical Theater (CMT) is the nations largest musical theater and training program for youth of its kind. The Foundations grant will support the SpotLight on YOUth program, an outreach arts education program, that brings interactive arts activities including a theater workshop to summer camps at local nonprofit agencies that support San Joses underserved and at-risk youth. CMT is a previous grant recipient and received a grant of $3,000.Community School of Music and Arts, Mountain View, CAThe Community School of Music and Arts (CSMA) provides a bilingual (Spanish and English) preschool music and arts program at Castro and Theuerkauf Schools in Mountain View, CA. The Foundations grant will support the program which offers free arts education to very young students enrolled in a state-funded preschool. CSMA is a seven-time grant recipient and received a grant of $4,000.East Bay Agency for Children, Oakland, CAThe East Bay Agency for Children (EBAC) is devoted exclusively to children and families coping with grief and loss. The Foundations grant will support the Circle of Care Grief and Loss Program which will provide grief and bereavement individual counseling and support groups for low-income, minority children and youth throughout Alameda County who have lost a parent or primary caregiver due to illness, sudden loss or community violence. The EBAC is a five-time grant recipient and received a grant of $2,500.Kara, Palo Alto, CAKara provides hope, healing, and grief support for people who are coping with death and dying. These services are provided at no cost. The Foundations grant will support Camp Erin, a weekend long grief support camp for children ages 6 to 17 who have experienced the death of someone close to them. Camp Erin provides intensive grief support in a fun environment to kids that are not able to access ongoing grief support. Kara is an eleven-time grant recipient and received a grant of $8,000.Kids & Art Foundation, Burlingame, CAThe Kids & Art Foundation provides art workshops to more than 1,000 pediatric cancer patients throughout the Bay Area. One of these workshops is a free weekly art program in the pediatric oncology waiting room at the Stanford Childrens Hospital. The hour and a half long workshops are led by local artists and provide opportunities for connection, enrichment and self-expression to children touched by cancer. The Foundations grant will be used to sustain the weekly art program. Kids & Arts Foundation is a first-time grant recipient and received a grant for $2,000.Beth Longwell Foundation College ScholarshipsIn addition to the grants listed above, the Beth Longwell Foundation provided college scholarships to two individuals: Stefany Rodriguez and Cristal Ortiz. Each student received $5,000 toward their college tuition during 2018 (as part of a 4-year $20,000 scholarship for each student).
