CAMP - SERVES APPROXIMATELY ONE HUNDRED FIRST TO FIFTH GRADE STUDENTS DURING JULY AND AUGUST OF EACH YEAR. 50% OF THE YOUTHS TIME IS PARTICIPATION IN A NEW YORK STATE SUMMER READING PROGRAM, COMPLETING SUMMER STUDY INITIATIVE PACKETS, LEARN AND ENGAGE IN CORNELL UNIVERSITY'S 40 DEVELOPMENTAL ASSETS, LIFE AND SOCIAL SKILLS PLANNING TECHNIQUES DERIVED FROM R.E.A.L. START CURRICULUM.-$43,535
PEER MENTORS - FIFTY HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS 14 TO 17 YEARS OLD STUDY TO BECOME CERTIFIED MENTORS WITH TRAINING FROM THE MEDIATION CENTER OF DUTCHESS COUNTY, NYS ALTERNATIVE TO VIOLENCE, NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF PEER COUNSELING AND PLANNED PARENTHOOD SAFE OR SORRY PROGRAMS. THIS OCCURS THREE DAYS PER WEEK AFTER SCHOOL FOR 2 1/2 HOURS EACH DAY. EACH STUDENT UPON COMPLETION OF ALL REQUIREMENTS FOR CERTIFICATION WILL THEN BE REQUIRED TO MENTOR ONE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CHILD.-$23,841

WORKSHOPS PROMOTE SKILLS IN PUBLIC SPEAKING, LEADERSHIP, BEHAVIOR MANAGEMENT, MEDIATION AND ALTERNATIVE TO VIOLENCE METHODOLOGIES. R.e.a.l. Camp - serves approximately one hundred first to fifth grade students during july and august of each year. 50% of the youths time is participation in a new york state summer reading program, completing summer study initiative packets, learn and engage in cornell university's 40 developmental assets, life and social skills planning techniques derived from r.e.a.l. Start curriculum.

S.t.a.r.t. - two hour elementary after school curriculum which focuses on techniques that support academic retention and progression. Approximately 50 to 75 students are assisted by trained college and high school students in the tutorial process to engage them in homework comprehension and completion. Workshops consist of a wide range of core academic subjects as well as basic life skills such as the value of nutrition and conflict resolution strategies. Recreational activities such as games, movies, museum/theatre sisits, field trips and parties act as accomplishment based incentives to ensure that students also have fun.

Peer mentors - fifty high school students 14 to 17 years old study to become certified mentors with training from the mediation center of dutchess county, nys alternative to violence, national association of peer counseling and planned parenthood safe or sorry programs. This occurs three days per week after school for 2 1/2 hours each day. Each student upon completion of all requirements for certification will then be required to mentor one elementary school child.

D.e.a.l. (developing esteemed academic life-skills)- 25 to 50 middle school students participate in this after school two hour program three afternoons per week. Workshops promote skills in public speaking, leadership, behavior management, mediation and alternative to violence methodologies. Hip hop theater - forty students from middle and high school grades six through twelve participate in this program. The program produces plays with the assistance of drama students from vassar college. Plays will focus on hip hop themes. All participants will have the opportunity to get involved with play writing, acting, directing and learning about stage management. Alternative to violence program - 50 to 100 middle and high school students participate in this program that trains individuals in how to avoid impulsive physical reactions that may lead to negative violent behavior. The goal of this program is to lower the community level of youth violence while increasing their exposure to the concepts of conflict resolution.

HIP HOP THEATER - FORTY STUDENTS FROM MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL GRADES SIX THROUGH TWELVE PARTICIPATE IN THIS PROGRAM. THE PROGRAM PRODUCES PLAYS WITH THE ASSISTANCE OF DRAMA STUDENTS FROM VASSAR COLLEGE. PLAYS WILL FOCUS ON HIP HOP THEMES. ALL PARTICIPANTS WILL HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO GET INVOLVED WITH PLAY WRITING, ACTING, DIRECTING AND LEARNING ABOUT STAGE MANAGEMENT. ALTERNATIVE TO VIOLENCE PROGRAM - 50 TO 100 MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN THIS PROGRAM THAT TRAINS INDIVIDUALS IN HOW TO AVOID IMPULSIVE PHYSICAL REACTIONS THAT MAY LEAD TO NEGATIVE VIOLENT BEHAVIOR. THE GOAL OF THIS PROGRAM IS TO LOWER THE COMMUNITY LEVEL OF YOUTH VIOLENCE WHILE INCREASING THEIR EXPOSURE TO THE CONCEPTS OF CONFLICT RESOLUTION.
