Mission

Mission: To create a culture of wellness with organizations and individuals in diverse communities. Vision: We seek to improve the quality of life, while seeking balance in healthy behaviors. Healthy Adventures Foundation approaches wellness using the Ecological Model of Health through identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation of programs and services, with an emphasis on underserved and high-risk populations. Our goal is to educate, inspire, support, and create opportunities for healthy lifestyle in physical activity, healthy nutrition, disease prevention and management, behavior modification and goal setting, stress management, health awareness, positive body image, promoting self-esteem, mind-body connection, and more that enables us to adapt to the needs of each community. Our strength lies in our ability to form collaborative working relationships with diverse groups of individuals, providing support, resources and expertise in building and maintain

Major Activities

Activity 2
Another long-term contract is with County of San Diego Department of Parks and Recreation. We serve approximately 200 at-risk and high-risk youth in a voluntary drop-in after-school program. The programs focus on healthy nutrition, healthy cooking, taking calculated risk by building self-confidence and gardening. The program at one of the sites expanded to included children that attend the library, which is one the same campus. This collaboration of efforts has doubled the participation at that site.

Another contract long-term contract is through Polinsky Childrens Center via Promises 2 Kids. We serve approximately 1500 high-risk youth in a temporary emergency foster care system. We originally led weekend physically active recreation programs and a once-a-week healthy cooking class. By the fall, we had also expanded into healthy gardening with the youth with a Intergenerational Jump Start Grant, funded by County of San Diego Department of Aging and Independent Services.

IRS990/Description0Currently, our largest contract is with California Schools VEBA. Through this partnership, we serve the health and wellness needs of the faculty and staff at more than 53 school districts in the Southern California Region. In 2012, we were able to reach about 7,963 participants (a 28% increase from 2011) through our wellness challenges, personalized health coaching services, health screenings, staff development workshops, presentations, and exercise classes held at district work sites. In addition, we have been able to obtain grants to support the youth within these school districts in wellness strategies.

An internal audit is in process for 2011 and Healthy Adventures Foundation is hiring an outside accounting firm to conduct an external audit for 2012.
