Governance Explanations

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11B

The board of directors reviews and approves the federal form 990 prior to filing with the irs.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12C

Officers, directors, and trustees are required to submit a business code of conduct and annual conflict of interest form to disability:in, acknowledging their obligation to adhere to the standards as stated in the conflict of interest policy, and attesting that if they have a reasonable belief that a compliance violation has occurred, they will report it to disability:in's board executive committee. Any board member who is aware of a potential conflict of interest with respect to any meeting coming before the board may participate in the discussion after disclosure, but may not vote in connection with the matter.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15A

The cfo and coo reviewed comparability data from both guidestar and the urban institute to propose an adjusted salary for the organization's president & ceo. This information was presented to the chair of the board who then took the proposal to the executive committee of the board of directors which serves as the compensation committee. The compensation committee reviewed and discussed the proposal and comparability data before making their decision to approve. The approved salary adjustment was then included in the organization's budget for the following year. The last compensation review took place in november 2023.

Additional Explanations

Form 990, Part III, Line 4A

Research & policy - disability:in's research agenda covers international disability inclusion trends and the legislative environs that regulate business around the world. Led by doctoral-level social science researchers, the organization conducts 3-4 major qualitative and quantitative studies each year on the business inclusive ecosystem, from the legislative landscape to private sector best practice, to disclosure and accountability mechanisms. The organization also participates in research partnerships with universities, other non-profit organizations, business advocacy groups, chambers of commerce, and state actors to broaden its reach in the wider disability research community. Disability:in's policy agenda is informed by its original empirical analyses and rests on the idea that disability inclusion is an fundamental pillar of responsible and sustainable business valuation. Procure access initiative and procure access statement - procure access is a business-to-business initiative facilitated by disability:in bringing together companies that recognize the importance of buying and selling technology that is accessible to people with disabilities. The initiative develops and shares best practices for both buyers and sellers. In a supportive community of peers, procure access helps businesses understand how accessible procurement creates an inclusive workplace with better, more usable products and services for employees, customers, and the public. The procure access statement describes the pressing need to expand the number of businesses of all sizes that prioritize accessible procurement. The statement identifies obstacles facing both buyers and sellers committed to technology products and services that disabled employees and customers can use. And it establishes shared goals of the companies who have signed the statement, such as "encourage the sharing of transparent, current, and accurate information about technology product and service accessibility."
