NEW PROJECT FOR 2019: FOLLOW UP RECIDIVISM PREVENTION STUDY OF OUR GRADUATES OVER THE PAST 2 YEARS, WE HAVE GRADUATED OVER 150 PARTICIPANTS THROUGH OUR 12- CLASS RESILIENCE TRAINING SERIES. OUR TRAINERS WILL CONTACT AS MANY OF THESE GRADUATES AS POSSIBLE. (THE FIRST FEW YEARS, THIS POPULATION CAN BE QUITE TRANSIENT, OFTEN CHANGING ADDRESSES AND PHONE NUMBERS, SO THEY CAN BE DIFFICULT TO TRACK DOWN. OUR PARTICIPANTS ARE NOT ONLY FORMER FELONS, BUT ALSO SUFFERED FROM SUBSTANCE ADDICTION, WHICH OFTEN LED TO THEIR CRIMINAL ACTIVITY. ACTIVE RECOVERY FROM ADDICTION, AND REINTEGRATION INTO EMPLOYMENT, HOUSING AND POSITIVE, SUPPORTIVE RELATIONSHIPS GO HAND IN HAND.) WE WANT TO UNDERSTAND WHO SUCCESSFULLY REINTEGRATED INTO PEACEFUL, PRODUCTIVE ROLES SINCE THEIR INCARCERATION, AND THE KEY FACTORS THAT LED TO THEIR SUCCESS. AND FOR THOSE WHO HAVE FALLEN BACK INTO DRUGS, CRIME AND/OR REINCARCERATION, WHAT WERE THE KEY FACTORS IN THEIR FAILURE TO REINTEGRATE? WE BELIEVE THE FINDINGS FROM THIS FOLLOW UP STUDY WILL BE IMPORTANT INFORMATION, NOT ONLY IN INFORMING OUR FUTURE TRAINING, BUT ALSO EDUCATING PROFESSIONALS WORKING THROUGHOUT THE UTAH CORRECTIONS DEPARTMENT. WE EXPECT TO DISSEMINATE OUR FINDINGS THROUGH THEIR REGIONAL CONFERENCES AND IN WRITING. | - | $31,190 |

“2018 resilience training for ex-offenders in partnership with the utah corrections department, training and resource learning center (trc), provo, utah 1.project summary: 184 training classes were conducted in 2018; 100 classes for men, 84 for women; 215 participants attended training; 150 men, 65 women; 96 participants graduated (those completing 8 or more of the 12- class training series) 2. 3 former graduates returned as peer mentors, contributing a total of 10 hours; 1 m.d. Guest speaker. Each participant that graduated received an individually written letter to the judicial system and a certificate of completion. 5 hours of consulting time with parole and probation agents, 12 hours of individual consulting time with clients 3. 100% of clients said that the education learned in the training was highly effective in improving their state of being. They reported that the exercise had a powerful, positive impact on their lives; 100% of those who mailed their cards said that their written comments affected others very positively. 4.evaluation results: quantitative ratings to measure learning outcomes were 90-95% very favorable qualitative results: below is a sample of feedback from participant evaluations: a. This class is making me want to take action for the things i want, instead of just wanting them. B. Al has made me a believer in myself, increased my self-esteem and willingness to succeed. I can overcome problems. C. I appreciate when you always tell me that we are loved and expected to be great. I want you to know that you are also loved and are great. D. The idea of erroneous thinking has made a big difference in how i think about myself and life. E. I really enjoy the metaphors in the lessons and how they apply to my life. I like talking about the scientific elements that help us understand how we relate to others and the universe. Thank you. F. I think this is a great class, i've learned more in here about who i really am than in school, the streets and jail. I would come to this class even if i didn't have to. Thanks al. 5. We expect to disseminate our findings through their regional conferences and in writing.”

I THINK THIS IS A GREAT CLASS, I'VE LEARNED MORE IN HERE ABOUT WHO I REALLY AM THAN IN SCHOOL, THE STREETS AND JAIL. I WOULD COME TO THIS CLASS EVEN IF I DIDN'T HAVE TO. THANKS AL. 5. |
