Mission and Program Overview

Mission

The shim institute promotes the connection of mind, body and spirit for the purpose of creating a supportive healing environment, tailored to the individual needs of the patient. We define spirituality as the dimension of a person that seeks to find internal meaning and purpose in their life through their relationships with themselves, with others and with a higher power. The shim 7 principles of healing are: faith, hope, social connectedness, purpose, control, forgiveness, and gratitude.

Our mission to advance whole-person health and healing by awakening inherent inner strengths that are designed to instill personal power, stimulate resiliency, enhance awareness, and inspire hope and purpose. To train and support at-risk and/or under-served youth and adults in our community who most need intensive assistance in learning and applying evidence-based resilience principles. Risk factors are defined as any disruption in harmony, i.e., domestic disruptions, low income, death, illness, or developmental, social, educational, and spiritual disruptions. Resiliency is a deliberate effort of utilizing inherent gifts and learned abilities, to spring ahead of the effects of adversity and restore harmony.

Our mission to advance whole-person health and healing by awakening inherent inner strengths that are designed to instill personal power, stimulate resiliency, enhance awareness, and inspire hope and purpose. Resiliency is a deliberate effort of utilizing inherent gifts and learned abilities, to spring ahead of the effects of adversity and restore harmony.

Form 990-ez, Part III, Line 28

We continue to provide the youth resiliency mentoring program. In 2024, we delivered 52 lessons to 298 at-risk youth. The risk factors that youth encounter are defined as any disruption in harmony, i.e., domestic disruptions, low income, death, illness, or developmental, social, educational, and spiritual disruptions. Following are some of the resiliency concepts the youth participants stated that they learned through the program: "if it is to be it is up to me", "resiliency means strength, happiness, and braveness.", "you can't do everything by yourself", "to keep going when something is tough and to stick to your goal", "resiliency is what can help you in sad times and "believe in yourself." we believe, more than ever, that if youth are not prepared for life's challenges, they tend to make unhealthy choices that can lead to a lifetime of setbacks. Our goal is to intervene before these behaviors prevent youth from achieving their full potential in society.
