Mission and Program Overview

Mission

Quantum theatre is a company of progressive, professional artists dedicated to producing intimate and sophisticated theatrical experiences in uncommon settings, exploring universal themes of truth, beauty, and human relationships in unexpected ways.

Quantum theatre creates adventurous, environmental productions of plays all over the city of pittsburgh. Original works, contemporary international plays, or updated classics are brought intimately close in settings like groves of trees, abandoned mills, grand museums, or empty swimming pools. The plays unite directors, performers, and designers from all over the world with pittsburgh's most talented artists.

Governance Explanations

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11B

A draft copy of the form 990 was sent from the independent accounting firm who prepared it before filing. The executive director and the audit committee chair reviewed the draft and their changes were incorporated following that the form was considered final, shared with the entire board, and filed.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12C

In regards to a conflict of interest policy, any connection with actual or possible conflicts of interest, an interested person must disclose the existence and nature of his or her financial interest and must be given the opportunity to disclose all material facts to the board of directors considering the proposed transaction or arrangement.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15

Quantum theatre has an annual review process with five salaried employees who report to the executive director. The executive director recommends salaries for these employees and seeks board approval in march at the time of budgeting the coming fiscal year. The salaries are comparable to similarly-sized organizations in the arts and related fields. The executive director's salary is determined by the board of directors and is based on salaries provided to the executive directors of similarly-sized organizations.

Form 990, Part VI, Section C, Line 19

Quantum theatre does not make its governing documents, conflict of interest policy, or financial statements available to the public.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc0QUANTUM THEATRE ALSO CONDUCTS A HIGH SCHOOL AND MIDDLE SCHOOL RESIDENCY PROJECT. QUANTUM THEATRE'S DIRECTOR OF EDUCATION IS A TEACHING ARTIST WHO GOES WEEKLY FOR SIX WEEKS INTO FOUR INNER-CITY HIGH SCHOOLS TO HELP STUDENTS INTERPRET A CLASSIC PLAY, A PIECE OF LITERATURE, OR A HISTORICAL EVENT IN THEIR OWN CONTEMPORARY TERMS. THE STUDENTS USE DIALOGUE, MUSIC, AND DANCE TO EXPRESS THEMES AND CHARACTERS, AND COME TOGETHER TO PERFORM FOR EACH OTHER AND THE PROFESSIONALS IN QUANTUM THEATRE'S UNUSUAL PROJECT LOCATIONS, AND TO SEE QUANTUM THEATRE'S FINISHED WORK. THE EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM TEACHES CREATIVE THINKING SKILLS, ANIMATES ENGLISH AND HISTORY CURRICULUM, AND MIXES STUDENTS FROM MANY PITTSBURGH NEIGHBORHOODS.
