Mission

The renal physicians association's exempt purpose is to:-promote optimal care utilizing the highest standards of medical practice for patients with renal and related diseases;-act as a national representative and resource for physicians engaged in the care of these patients and in the study of these disorders; and-serve as a resource for the development of national health policy affecting renal physicians and their patients.

The board of directors shall designate an executive committee. The executive committee shall exercise the authority of the board of directors in (a) managing the day to day affairs of the corporation, and (b) carrying out all policy decisions made by the board of directors.

The association has no employees of its own, the compensation listed represents the cost of staff expense paid to human resources international.

Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 6

Rpa's members can consist of any person licensed to practice medicine in the united states who is engaged in the treatment of patients with renal disease or in research activities involving renal disease. Associate members are any person or group designated by resolution of the board of directors.

Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 7A

A nominating committee shall be selected by the board of directors on or before july 1 of each year. The nominating committee shall have at least three members. The nominating committee shall be composed of representatives of the board of directors and the membership-at-large and one member of the nominating committee shall at all times be a counselor. Election of directors shall take place via a mail ballot. The secretary/treasurer shall mail out the ballot with the approved list of nominees 60 days prior to the date of the annual meeting. Members may cast their votes for or against the nominees listed on the ballot. Further, members may elect to write in other candidates' names.

The executive committee of the organization reviews benchmark data collected by the american society of association executives (asae) and the american association of medical society executives (aamse) annually in preparation for the performance review and salary determination for the rpa executive director. Comparable salaries for ceo's of similar size (budget); type of association (individual physician membership); and geographic location of association headquarters (washington, dc metro area) are reviewed by the executive committee to ensure appropriate alignment with like organizations. For other key employees, the executive director annually reviews benchmark data for similar positions that is also collected and published by asae and aamse to determine appropriate salary ranges for those staff members.

AS AN ACTIVE PARTICIPANT ON THE AMERICAN MEDICAL ASSOCIATION'S RELATIVE VALUE UPDATE COMMITTEE (RUC), PRACTICE EXPENSE ADVISORY COMMITTEE (PEAC), AND CPT EDITORIAL PANEL, RPA WORKS TO ASSURE THAT WORK VALUES FOR NEPHROLOGY SERVICES ARE APPROPRIATELY DETERMINED AND THAT CPT CODES ACCURATELY REFLECT NEPHROLOGY CLINICAL PRACTICE. FINALLY, RPA TRACKS PROBLEMS RELATED TO REIMBURSEMENT FOR NEPHROLOGY SERVICES AND PAYMENT DENIALS EXPERIENCED BY MEMBERS TO DETERMINE TRENDS AND IDENTIFY AREAS WHERE RPA NEEDS TO TAKE ACTION.
