Genesis housing is a nonprofit corporation, incorporated under the wisconsin nonstock corporation law (chapter 181 of the wisconsin statutes). The organization is exempt from income taxes under section 501(c)(4) of the internal revenue code. Genesis housing's federal exempt organization tax returns are subject to examination by the internal revenue service, generally for three years after they are filed. With few exceptions, genesis housing is no longer subject to such examinations for years before 2021.
