The Durango Arts Center ("DAC") enriches the community through innovative visual and performing art, and arts education. DAC advances appreciation and participation in th earts as a cultural leader in the region.

OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 4: DAC hosted over 80 community events for the public, including exhibit receptions, theatre performances, artist lectures film screenings and fundraisers. Education programs offered over 150 unique art workshops, camps and classes. IRS990/Desc0DACs Community Theater welcomed an estimated 6,200 patrons to the 2018 Theatre Season of two adult-cast productions, six youth cast and the 10-Minute Play Festival. The Theater also served as a venue for 63 organizations, businesses and community members through year-round rental events. DAC fulfilled 296 registrations and distributed $6,044 in scholarship support for students ages 5-17 attending the DAC Applause program, a year-round curriculum celebrating musical and non-musical theatre. A total of 70 registrations were fulfilled for adult theatre workshops.

To enhance the visual arts experience, DAC coordinates educational opportunities to coincide with exhibits, such as lectures/panel discussions, artist demonstrations, workshops or film screenings. In addition to sales and exhibit fees for juried shows, the exhibits program was supported by $28,785 in corporate sponsorships, individual donations and grants.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy3Grp/Desc0DAC Visual Arts Education fulfilled a total of 882 registrations across the adult, youth and childrens workshops and camps serving ages 5 and up, and distributed over $9,200 in scholarship aid. Key programs include After School Art, a longstanding partnership with Durango School District 9R; Girls Opportunities through Arts and Leadership (GOAL), which focuses on confidence and skill-building for middle school girls; DAC Docents shared 67 free art history sessions to area schools and community centers engaging 1,195 elementary children and senior adults in learning about and making art; and Creativity Festivity - a 24-year partnership with Durango 9R that celebrates art and artists of our local schools. Creativity Festivity spans two weeks in late spring, and features an exhibit of 1,500 pieces of artwork by kindergarten through 12th grade students, a high school poetry slam and a theatrical performance produced by students of the Applause program. Total audience engagement is estimated at 4,000 community members for this event.
