Mission and Program Overview

Mission

Promote and support the improvement of major hospital (mhp) and the services provided. Provide financial assistance for the improvement of the health, safety, and general welfare of major hospital patients. Aid and promote education and scientific research in the advancement of knowledge relating to the discovery, prevention, and treatment of disease. Aid and promote the care and treatment of the sick, aged, and helpless patients of major hospital.

Major Activities

Activity 2
Prescription assistance program: the goal of the prescription assistance program is not only to help patients pay for their prescriptions, but also to reduce uncompensated care costs for the hospital. Uncompensated care reached nearly $15 million in 2011, driving up healthcare costs for everyone in the community and straining major health partners' ability to provide high-quality care to all patients. When an uninsured, low-income patient is about to be dismissed from the hospital, needs prescriptions to recover and/or stay healthy, and has no money to pay for the prescriptions, the patient is at-risk for being readmitted to the hospital, probably for the same reason as the initial admission. This is bad for the patient's health and drives up uncompensated care costs for the hospital. After all, if a person cannot afford necessary medications, he or she certainly cannot afford a hospital stay. The prescription assistance program will pay for these patients' prescriptions until long term assistance is found. The patient then has the medicine he or she needs to get well, stay healthy, and avoid an expensive, preventable hospital admission. At the same time, uncompensated admission to the hospital is avoided. The foundation spent $4,031.72
Activity 3
Patient support program: a visit to the hospital can be very stressful, and our patients often have needs beyond clinical care. The patient support program is in place to help reduce stressors for patients and to help meet unusual needs so that patients can concentrate on getting well instead of worrying. Examples of items purchased for patients include a stuffed animal for a frightened child who needs a friend, clothing to wear home if the patient's was destroyed in an accident that brought he or she to the hospital, cab fare for a ride home for patients who can't or shouldn't drive and don't have anyone to help them, and gas, phone, and meal cards for families with few resources whose patient must be transferred to a far-away facility. The expense for the program was $10,505 in 2011.major hospital foundation also partnered with major pediatrics and meridian psychologoical associates to provide a monthly parenting workshop. Fifty families attended, with expenses totaling $6,000

IRS990/Activity2/Description0PRESCRIPTION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM: THE GOAL OF THE PRESCRIPTION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM IS NOT ONLY TO HELP PATIENTS PAY FOR THEIR PRESCRIPTIONS, BUT ALSO TO REDUCE UNCOMPENSATED CARE COSTS FOR THE HOSPITAL.

IRS990/Activity3/Description0PATIENT SUPPORT PROGRAM: A VISIT TO THE HOSPITAL CAN BE VERY STRESSFUL, AND OUR PATIENTS OFTEN HAVE NEEDS BEYOND CLINICAL CARE. IRS990/Description0THE FOUNDATION HAS CONCENTRATED IN 2011 ON HELPING PATIENTS MAKE A SUCCESSFUL TRANSITION FROM THE HOSPITAL TO HOME OR ANOTHER FACILITY, ESPECIALLY THROUGH THE PRESCRIPTION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM. THIS PROGRAM LEVERAGES THE FOUNDATION'S FUNDRAISING CAPACITY TO HELP PREVENT UNCOMPENSATED VISITS, WHICH ARE THE HOSPITAL'S GREATEST CHALLENGE RIGHT NOW. THE FOUNDATION ALSO GAVE $100,000 TO THE HOSPITAL IN ORDER TO HELP OFFSET CHARITY CARE EXPENSE, WHICH AS IT BECOMES LARGER, THREATENS THE HOSPITAL'S ABILITY TO CONTINUE PROVIDING A HIGH QUALITY OF CARE.

IRS990ScheduleD/Form990ScheduleDPartXIV/Explanation0ACCOUNTING PRINCIPLES GENERALLY ACCEPTED IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA REQUIRE MANAGEMENT TO EVALUATE TAX POSITIONS TAKEN BY MHP (AND THEIR AFFILIATES) AND RECOGNIZE A TAX LIABILITY IF MHP HAS TAKEN AN UNCERTAIN POSITION THAT MORE LIKELY THAN NOT WOULD NOT BE SUSTAINED UPON EXAMINATION BY VARIOUS FEDERAL AND STATE TAXING AUTHORITIES. MANAGEMENT HAS ANALYZED THE TAX POSITIONS TAKEN BY MHP AND HAS CONCLUDED THAT AS OF DECEMBER 31, 2011 AND DECEMBER 31, 2010, THERE ARE NO UNCERTAIN POSITIONS TAKEN OR EXPECTED TO BE TAKEN THAT WOULD REQUIRE RECOGNITION OF A LIABILITY OR DISCLOSURE IN THE ACCOMPANYING CONSOLIDATED FINANCIAL STATEMENTS. MHP IS SUBJECT TO ROUTINE AUDITS BY TAXING JURISDICTIONS; HOWEVER, THERE ARE CURRENTLY NO AUDITS FOR ANY TAX PERIODS IN PROGRESS.
IRS990ScheduleD/Form990ScheduleDPartXIV/Explanation1PART XI, XII, AND XIII ARE NOT REQUIRED AS THE ORGANIZATION IS PART OF A CONSOLIDATED FINANCIAL STATEMENT. THE CONSOLIDATED FINANCIAL STATEMENTS ARE AUDITED BY AN INDEPENDENT ACCOUNTING FIRM AND PREPARED IN ACCORDANCE WITH GENERALLY ACCEPTED ACCOUNTING PRINCIPLES.
