“Inglis' mission is to enable people with disabilities and those who care for them to achieve their goals and live life to the fullest. Founded in 1877, Inglis empowers adults ages 18 and older and is a national leader in providing comprehensive care and services for people living with paralysis, multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, spinal cord and other neurological disorders. Our range of services includes a 252-bed skilled nursing facility, 335 affordable, accessible apartments in southeastern PA and southern NJ, community employment and support services, an adapted technology community computing program, a day program and production and sales of the Drink-Aide water bottle. During fiscal year '17 Inglis served over 1,000 people directly, and many more indirectly through its website, www.inglis.org and other outreach activities. Program Services Accomplishments: Inglis highlights include: Worked with 20 colleges, universities and organizations to train future healthcare professionals to better understand the unique needs of people with disabilities. In FY '16, completed construction of Inglis Gardens at Belmont and began transitioning Inglis House residents wanted to live in the community to their new apartments. These transitions began in FY '16 and ended in FY '17. The apartment complex provides affordable, accessible housing to 40 people with physical disabilities moving from nursing homes, and 40 community residents who meet income guidelines. Inglis technology specialists and therapists are installing the Amazon Echo and other Smart Home Technology into 20 Inglis Housing Corporation consumer apartments, all funded by donations. The Amazon Echo enables our consumers to control their lights, thermostat and some small appliances. Smart home technology includes the Ring doorbell, which allows consumers to see who is ringing their bell from another room or even when away from home. Also, using a Schlage doorknob, the consumer can program unique 4 digit access codes for care givers, family and friends, allowing them access to the apartment and sending an alert to the occupant when the code is entered. Inglis is gathering data related to the effective use of the Echo by people with disabilities, and providing this information to Amazon. iNGLIS Began renovations to create the 44-unit Pennypack Crossing apartment building in Northeast Philadelphia. Like Inglis Gardens at Belmont, these apartments feature wider doorways and living areas that can accommodate the needs of power wheelchair users. The apartment's grand opening will take place in FY '18. There are 12 units for residents with complex physical disabilities and 32 units for qualified senior citizens. Consultation and training was completed for 110 consumers enrolled in the Inglis Community Computing project during this fiscal year. During the first six-plus years of this nine-year grant initiative, funded by The Pew Charitable Trusts, a total of 559 persons were served, providing access to computer technology and adapted computing equipment for people in the tri-state area. The program is in its third, three-year grant cycle (year seven of nine years). Overview of Inglis programs: Inglis House offers its residents a full range of physical, occupational and speech therapies, social enrichment programs including computer and education programs, employment opportunities and religious programs in a vibrant Person-Centered Care community characterized by respect and empowerment for each member. The average age is 56 for female residents and 44 for male residents. The average length of stay is 11.30 years. Inglis has been named a Center for the Promotion of Excellence in Long Term Care by the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Only nine other organizations in the US have earned this designation. Progress continued in the multi-year Person-Centered Care (PCC) initiative (which began in FY 2011) to transform Inglis House from an institutional model to a neighborhood model. In F”
