Activity 2

Self-sufficiency programs engage a multi-faceted approach that involves outreach, program, initiatives, education and advocacy to help individuals and families along the path to economic self-sufficiency. Services include: financial education program that incorporates both workshops and individual financial counseling to help low-income clients build paths to self-sufficiency; volunteer income tax assistance program for free income tax preparation; healthcare industry partnership which brings together healthcare providers in the region to identify and address workforce needs and skills gaps and helps low-wage and displaced workers attain the skills necessary to improve earnings, employment opportunities and advancement along a career ladder; youth initiatives which targets current students and out-of-school youth and provides paid work experience, career exploration as well as communication and job readiness skills. During this year, pathways estimates that the program served 2,281 women and children.

Activity 3

The pathways pa earn center offers free services and incentives to support people transitioning from temporary assistance for needy families (tanf) to the workforce. The pathways staff helps participants develop the skills they need for family-sustaining jobs. Services of the earn center include: career goal assessment, referrals to job-specific skills training, job readiness assessment, job placement and retention services, paid work experience and community service opportunities, career counseling & family support services, vocational foundation skills, nationally certified job-readiness program and computer literacy. Job developers work with clients to find the right matches for employment opportunities. The staff works with each employer to customize job orders. Employer direct services include free placement services and background screenings, wage subsidies and retention support services. During this year, pathways estimates that the program served 902 clients.
