Activity 2

Reentry program - volunteers and staff work on a one-to-one basis and group basis to assist in reentry efforts for released inmates returning to the community, assess individual inmates' post-release needs, gather and provide appropriate information about community-based programs and services, and work with local nonprofit and government agencies to coordinate the delivery of services. Programs include volunteer-led group fellowship events and one-on-one mentoring at the local jail, as well as comprehensive reentry services that begin at the community reentry center and continue for up to 3 years post-release. Services focus on employment, connections to community-based agencies, and immediate post-release needs, such as transportation, housing, and obtaining an id. Over 1,500 individuals benefitted from these services in 2012, including over 600 who received critical immediate post-release needs and 240 who received intensive pre-release employment assistance.

Activity 3

Reentry housing/homelessness prevention program - the program provides case management services, employment assistance, and tenant education and budgeting classes, as well as financial assistance for utilities and rent. The program focuses on individuals being released from the berks county jail system and ex-offenders returning from local and state correctional facilities. 67 of the 71 individuals who participated in, and left, the housing program in 2012 were successful; giving the program a 94% success rate.
