“The primary responsibility of the executive committee is to strengthen the board's performance by helping it function efficiently and effectively. Its broad powers shall be used only as necessary and appropriate on routine business or emergency matters that cannot or should not be delayed until the board's next regularly scheduled meeting or until a special meeting of the board should be called as specified in the bylaws. On the university's form 990, these related entities were previously reported on the university's balance sheet using the equity method of accounting. However, the revenue (part viii) and expenses (part ix) were not reported on a consolidated basis. Upon further review, it was determined that the presentation of an investment in subsidiary in net assets on the balance sheet does not meet the irs technical requirements when filing a form 990 and the return should not be reported on a consolidated basis. Therefore, the amount reported in part xi line 8 is to adjust the opening balance for the assets of the related organization which were reported on the form 990 balance sheet.”
“The endowment funds are held by pennsylvania college of optometry foundation, a related tax-exempt organization. The pennsylvania college of optometry foundation's endowment consists of a portfolio of actively managed funds established to provide both a source of operating funds as well as long-term financial stability. The endowment includes both donor restricted endowment funds and funds designated by the board of trustees to function as endowments or quasi endowments. Endowment funds may have purpose restrictions on use of the income.”
