Activity 2

Legal Services: The PSEA Legal Division is responsible for providing legal services as needed to PSEA's 187,000+ members and to over 1,000 PSEA local affiliates. PSEA attorneys, who are either on staff or are retained, represent locals with respect to bargaining and contract issues and represent members in all employment-related matters. Each year, the attorneys collectively handle over 1,000 cases. In addition, the Legal Division provides counsel and advice to staff within PSEA including field staff, lobbyists, educational specialists, and financial management staff. The Legal Division also provides advice and legal opinions in PSEA governance matters and is responsible for all representation of PSEA as a legal entity. The Legal Division is responsible for meeting all requirements of the NEA Unified Legal Services Program, which partially reimburses PSEA for its attorneys fees in certain cases. The Legal Division coordinates a number of programs for PSEA including the Educators Employment Liability program and the Association's Liability Insurance policy.

Activity 3

Communications Services: The Communications Division supports and promotes all Association activities, projects and programs through internal and external communications activities. The division provides core services, including print and electronic publications, strategic message management, news media relations, advertising, membership materials, and leadership communications. Communications writes and produces the following publications: Voice, the all-member magazine, distributed to all members, 6 times a year; Connected, the all-member e-newsletter, distributed to about 119,000 members, monthly; and President To President, an e-newsletter from the PSEA President to local presidents, distributed to about 1,000 local leaders, monthly. Communications also publishes other membership materials, and is responsible for arts and graphics materials for the entire organization. Staff provides sophisticated, researched, data-driven internal and external programs. Communications helps build and strengthen relationships with PSEA members, the public, and other members of the education and labor communities.
