IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc0COMMUNITY PROGRAMS: TSS ALSO WORKS EXTENSIVELY WITH SURVIVORS IN THE COMMUNITY. SOME OF THESE SURVIVORS HAVE TRANSITIONED FROM OUR RESIDENCES INTO PERMANENT HOUSING, WHILE OTHERS ARE SEEKING SAFETY FOR THEMSELVES AND THEIR FAMILIES. SERVICES INCLUDE SAFETY PLANNING AND CASE-MANAGEMENT, WHERE ADVOCATES HELP SURVIVORS PLAN WAYS TO BE SAFE FROM VIOLENCE, INCLUDING HOW TO MAKE A SAFE ESCAPE FROM AN ABUSER. WE ALSO EDUCATE AND HELP SURVIVORS TO ADDRESS THE LONG-TERM EFFECTS OF DV, CONNECTING THEM WITH LOCAL PROVIDERS AS WELL AS STATE AND INSURANCE BENEFITS, TEACHING SELF-CARE AND STRESS MANAGEMENT, AND STRATEGIZING WITH THEM ABOUT EMPLOYMENT AND FINANCIAL HEALTH, CHILD AND ADULT WELLNESS, AND RESPONSES TO CHRONIC PHYSICAL AND EMOTIONAL ISSUES. COMMUNITY PROGRAMS ALSO INCLUDE OUR IMAGINE PROGRAM (INSPIRATION, MOTIVATION, AND GROWTH IN NETWORKS THAT EMPOWER), WHICH WORKS WITH CLIENTS AND THEIR CHILDREN OUT IN THE COMMUNITY WHO ARE STRUGGLING TO KEEP THEIR - AND THEIR CHILDREN'S - LIVES ON TRACK, AND TO ASSUAGE THE ISOLATION THAT IS SO OFTEN THE RESULT OF DV. THROUGH ONE-ON-ONE MENTORSHIP, PEER SUPPORT GROUPS, CHILDREN'S AND TEEN GROUPS, AND RETREATS, IMAGINE CREATES A SURVIVOR-CENTERED COMMUNITY THAT SUPPORTS EACH CLIENT'S CONTINUED GROWTH AND EMPOWERMENT. INCLUDED AMONG THESE PROGRAMS ARE THE LEGAL SERVICES AVAILABLE THROUGH OUR STEPS TO JUSTICE PROGRAM. IN RESPONSE TO A LONG-STANDING NEED TO PROVIDE TRAUMA-INFORMED LEGAL SERVICES TO SURVIVORS OF DV, WE LAUNCHED OUR STEPS TO JUSTICE LEGAL SERVICES PROGRAM IN 2011. TODAY, OUR FULL-TIME STAFF ATTORNEYS AND DEDICATED PRO-BONO ATTORNEYS PROVIDE REPRESENTATION AND ASSISTANCE WITH RESTRAINING ORDERS, CHILD CUSTODY AND SUPPORT, GUARDIANSHIP, IMMIGRATION, BENEFITS, AND HOUSING. WORKING WITH A NETWORK OF COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS AND VOLUNTEER ATTORNEYS, WE ARE ABLE TO PROVIDE REPRESENTATION REGARDLESS OF A CLIENT'S FINANCIAL SITUATION.
IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/ExpenseAmt0453995
IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy3Grp/Desc0CHILDREN'S SERVICES: TSS OFFERS A RANGE OF SERVICES FOR CHILDREN AND YOUTH WHO HAVE BEEN EXPOSED TO DV AND/OR ARE AT HEIGHTENED RISK OF BECOMING INVOLVED IN ABUSIVE RELATIONSHIPS. WE OFFER SUPPORTIVE GROUPS FOR TEENS AND ADOLESCENTS, AND OUR THERAPEUTIC AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAM PROVIDES SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL SUPPORT TOGETHER WITH STAGE-APPROPRIATE EDUCATION FOR YOUNGER CHILDREN IN THE RESIDENTIAL PROGRAMS. THROUGH ONE-ON-ONE RELATIONSHIPS AND THE GROUP SUPPORTS THAT OUR YOUNG PEOPLE BUILD, WE CREATE CONNECTION OUT OF ISOLATION, EMPOWERING THESE YOUTH TO CREATE NEW FUTURES ON THEIR OWN TERMS. THESE SERVICES ARE INTEGRATED WITH THE SUPPORTS PROVIDED TO PARENTS THROUGH OUR RESIDENTIAL AND COMMUNITY PROGRAMS, ENSURING THAT SERVICES ARE COMPLEMENTARY AND FOCUSED ON CREATING HEALTHY AND RESILIENT FAMILIES.
IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy3Grp/ExpenseAmt0229702
IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActyOtherGrp/Desc0OUTREACH AND EDUCATION: WE KNOW THAT YOUTH SURVIVORS OF DV ARE MORE LIKELY TO BECOME INVOLVED IN ABUSIVE RELATIONSHIPS LATER IN LIFE, WHETHER THEY ARE VICTIMS OR PERPETRATORS. BY INCLUDING LOCAL HIGH SCHOOLS AND MIDDLE SCHOOLS, COMMUNITY-BASED ORGANIZATIONS, AND FAITH COMMUNITIES IN OUR OUTREACH AND PREVENTION EFFORTS, WE ARE ABLE TO INTEGRATE OUTREACH, EDUCATION, AND DIRECT SERVICE ACTIVITIES WITHIN A LARGER CONTEXT OF VIOLENCE PREVENTION ACROSS THE BOARD. WE ALSO CONDUCT WORKSHOPS AND PRESENTATION FOR THE BROADER COMMUNITY, FOCUSING ON TOPICS SUCH AS HEALTHY/UNHEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS, WARNING SIGNS OF ABUSE, BYSTANDER INTERVENTION, AND HOW TO HELP PEERS, FRIENDS, AND FAMILY MEMBERS WHO ARE IN VIOLENT AND ABUSIVE RELATIONSHIPS. THE SECOND STEP MOBILIZED HUNDREDS OF VOLUNTEERS FROM THE COMMUNITY TO PARTICIPATE IN OUR WORK THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. THIS RANGES FROM VOLUNTEERS WHO HELP AT OUR BACK-TO-SCHOOL AND HOLIDAY GIFT DRIVES, IN OUR THERAPEUTIC AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAM, AT OUR FRONT DESK, MENTORING AND HELPING IN OUR COMMUNITY PROGRAMS, COOKING MEALS FOR CLIENTS, AND COUNTLESS OTHER WAYS. IN ADDITION, WE ENGAGE THE COMMUNITY IN SCHOOL DRIVES, BAR AND BAT MITZVAH PROJECTS, AND OTHER EVENTS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. IN TOTAL, OVER $21,000 A YEAR IS DONATED TO THE SECOND STEP IN IN-KIND DONATIONS. IN ADDITION, WE ESTIMATE THAT OVER 3,000 VOLUNTEER HOURS ARE DONATED TO THE SECOND STEP ANNUALLY, REPRESENTING A VALUE OF AT LEAST $65,000 IN DONATED VOLUNTEER TIME.
