A SECONDARY DEFINITION IS "PROFESSIONAL GUIDANCE USING PSYCHOLOGICAL METHODS COLLECTING PERSONAL HISTORY, COMPARING TO OTHERS, AND USING VARIOUS TECHNIQUES INCLUDING WRITTEN TESTS." BOTH FORMS OF COUNSELING ARE COMMONLY EMPLOYED AT GOOD COUNSEL.EVERY MOTHER ENTERING INTO A GOOD COUNSEL HOME IS TREATED WITH GREAT RESPECT AS A UNIQUE INDIVIDUAL WITH A UNIQUE SET OF CIRCUMSTANCES THAT HAS BROUGHT HER TO US. [SEE CONTINUATION ON SCHEDULE O][CONTINUED FROM PART III] - AS PART OF OUR OPEN INTAKE POLICY EVERY MOTHER WILL BE ASSIGNED TO A CASE MANAGER WHO IS A STAFF MEMBER OF GOOD COUNSEL AND SPECIALLY TRAINED TO MEET THE NEEDS OF OUR PREGNANT HOMELESS MOTHERS. AS CONFIDENTIAL COUNSELING SESSIONS BEGIN EACH MOTHER IS ENCOURAGED TO SEE HERSELF AS PART OF THE GOOD COUNSEL FAMILY AND FOR THE RESIDENCE TO BECOME HER HOME. THIS HELPS BEGIN A UNIQUE RELATIONSHIP WITH HER CASE MANAGER. A GOOD COUNSEL MOTHER IS ALSO INVITED TO HAVE A MENTOR WHO IS LIKE HER SISTER AND CAN BE ANY MEMBER OF THE STAFF. THIS ALLOWS FOR GROWTH OUTSIDE OF FORMAL COUNSELING SESSIONS AND PROVIDES AN ADDITIONAL SUPPORT SYSTEM.DURING EVERY STEP OF THE WAY WHEN A HOMELESS PREGNANT MOTHER IS WITH US, TRAINED GOOD COUNSEL STAFF HELP TO UNCOVER THE STRUGGLES AND STRAINS WHICH BROUGHT HER TO OUR DOORS. MOTHERS OFTEN REPORT PRIOR ABUSE, NEARLY 80%, EITHER SEXUAL, PHYSICAL, OR SERIOUSLY EMOTIONAL. DURING THE FIRST MONTH AT GOOD COUNSEL EACH MOM IS GUIDED TO USE ONLINE ASSESSMENT TOOLS TO DISCOVER MORE ABOUT HERSELF, HER EDUCATIONAL STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES AND HER VOCATIONAL PROCLIVITIES. HER CASE MANAGER, ALONG WITH HER MENTOR AND OTHER STAFF WILL HELP HER UNDERSTAND THE ASSESSMENTS AS WELL AS CONSTRUCTIVELY LISTEN TO THE HOPES AND DESIRES SHE HAS FOR THE FUTURE. THE CASE MANAGER WILL OFFICIALLY MEET EACH MOTHER AT LEAST ONE HOUR PER WEEK. OTHER INFORMAL MEETINGS HAPPEN AS NEEDED AND USUALLY MORE THAN ONCE A WEEK. JUST THE FORMAL MEETINGS TOTALED 10,636 HOURS DURING 2015. ADDITIONALLY, ABOUT 49% OF MOTHERS RECEIVED OUTSIDE PROFESSIONAL COUNSELING.GOOD COUNSEL'S OPEN INTAKE AND ABILITY TO TAKE IN AND ASSIST HOMELESS PREGNANT MOTHERS LED TO SEEING 174 MOTHERS WHO STAYED 90 DAYS OR LONGER, WITH AN AVERAGE LENGTH OF STAY THAT WAS 13.3 MONTHS. THIRTY-SEVEN PERCENT MADE EDUCATIONAL ADVANCES AND 49% ENTERED THE WORK FORCE. ALL OF THESE FRUITS OCCURRED DUE TO THE BENEFICIAL COUNSELING OPPORTUNITIES PROVIDED BY GOOD COUNSEL. |
