Profile
In all of our development and reconciliation activities, our aim is to equip and empower individuals, families and communities for positive social and economic transformation through reproducible initiatives that prioritize local participation, resources and cultural strengths. Our overarching goal is to empower individuals, families and communities to break the cycle of poverty and misunderstanding. Two key ways we do this are through building hope (helping people see the way forward), and building trust (ensuring support for those seeking a better future).

Our overarching goal is to empower individuals, families and communities to break the cycle of poverty and misunderstanding. In both our interfaith reconciliation activities and our community development work, we seek to reflect the love of jesus christ. In our reconciliation work, we are dedicated to promoting the kind of respectful mutual understanding and rigorous scholarship that advances peace between muslims and christians and equips christians to be faithful witnesses to the love of jesus christ in their relationships with muslim friends and partners. In our community development work, we seek to equip and empower individuals, families and communities for positive social and economic transformation that will break the cycle of poverty and misunderstanding.

| INTERFAITH DIALOGUE PROGRAMS AND RESEARCH:IN OUR 2023 REPORT WE NOTED THAT WE WERE PREPARING TO ORGANIZE A SEMINAR AT AL-AZHAR IN CAIRO (THE WORLD-LEADING INSTITUTION OF ISLAMIC SCHOLARSHIP), IN PARTNERSHIP WITH FULLER THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY. THIS GROUNDBREAKING SEMINAR TOOK PLACE IN EARLY 2024 AND WAS A SUCCESS, WITH MANY PARTICIPANTS DESCRIBING THEIR EXPERIENCES AS "LIFE-CHANGING, AND WITH OUR AL-AZHAR HOSTS EAGER TO EXPAND THE SEMINAR AS AN ANNUAL EVENT AND TO EXPLORE OTHER JOINT PROJECTS. STUDENTS FROM OTHER INSTITUTIONS ALSO SHOWED INTEREST IN ATTENDING FUTURE SEMINARS. SO, IN SPRING 2024 WE WORKED WITH AL-AZHAR PARTNERS TO DEVELOP A BROADENED SEMINAR, AND IN LATE DECEMBER 2024 WE BEGAN THE FIRST OF TWO SESSIONS (CONTINUING INTO EARLY 2025) OF A SEMINAR WITH STUDENTS FROM FULLER SEMINARY, YALE UNIVERSITY, PRINCETON UNIVERSITY, TUBINGEN UNIVERSITY, GOTTINGEN UNIVERSITY, BOSTON COLLEGE, BOSTON UNIVERSITY, AND OTHER INSTITUTIONS. IN SUMMER 2024 WE ORGANIZED ANOTHER SEMINAR CALLED PEACE COLLEGE TO TRAIN MID-CAREER LEADERS ENGAGED IN IN INTERCULTURAL CHRISTIAN MINISTRY IN MUSLIM-MAJORITY CONTEXTS. IN OUR 2023 REPORT, WE MENTIONED THE COMPLETION OF RESEARCH FOR A BOOK ON THE ROLE PLAYED BY HOSPITALITY (GIVING AND RECEIVING) IN BREAKING DOWN BARRIERS BETWEEN MUSLIMS AND CHRISTIANS. THE WRITING OF THIS BOOK, IN AN ACADEMIC FORMAT, WAS COMPLETED IN 2024. BECAUSE OUR WORK IN INTERFAITH RECONCILIATION AND ACADEMIC RESEARCH HAS NOW BECOME 90% OF OUR WORK, WHILE THE NAME "DOULOS COMMUNITY" IS ASSOCIATED WITH OUR COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT WORK (SEE BELOW), WE FILED LEGAL PAPERWORK IN 2024 TO OPERATE UNDER THE ALTERNATE NAME "WOODBERRY INTERCULTURAL INSTITUTE." BOTH NAMES REFER TO THE SAME LEGAL ENTITY. | $0 | $78,554 |
| COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS:IN 2024, DOULOS CONTINUED OUR COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS IN THE ISLAMIC REPUBLIC OF MAURITANIA. THESE PROGRAMS REMAINED SMALL IN SCALE, DUE TO FACTORS OUTLINED IN OUR REPORT OF 2016, AND THEY NOW CONSTITUTE ONLY ABOUT 10% OF OUR WORK. PROGRAMS CONTINUING FROM 2017 AND INTO 2024 INCLUDE SUPPORT FOR A SCHOOL IN AN UNDER-SERVED COMMUNITY, PROVIDING EXPERT ADVICE TO INDIGENOUS MAURITANIAN NGOS, COORDINATION OF SOME SMALL-SCALE HUMANITARIAN AID, AND OTHER SMALL PROJECTS IN RURAL VILLAGES. IN 2024 WE CONTINUED OVERSIGHT OF THE MICROENTERPRISE/JOB-CREATION PROJECT BEGUN IN 2020. WE PARTNERED WITH ASLAN CHILD RESCUE MINISTRIES FOR THE PROJECT. TOGETHER WE CREATED 3 JOBS IN DECEMBER 2021, AND THIS CONTINUED TO BE STABLE WITH MODEST GROWTH THROUGHOUT 2024. ASLAN PROVIDED THE CAPITAL FOR THE MICROLOANS AND NOW, DOULOS COMMUNITY STAFF BROKER THE LOANS AND OVERSEE THE REPAYMENT OF THE LOANS TO ASLAN. THIS ENABLED ASLAN TO MAKE OTHER SMALL BUSINESS LOANS IN 2024. | $0 | $8,728 |
