| IN CONTINUATION OF THE WORK WITH THE TOWN OF BELLMONT SUPERVISOR, THE FRANKLIN COUNTY WATER DISTRICT MANAGER AND ECOLOGIC, MEETINGS WERE HELD WITH THE ADIRONDACK PARK AGENCY TO FUTHER THE FEASIBILITY STUDY FOR SEDIMENT REMEDIATION FOR MOUNTAIN VIEW LAKE AND INDIAN LAKE. THE ADIRONDACK PARK AGENCY HAS AIDED US WITH GUIDANCE FOR THOSE THINGS WHICH WOULD AID IN POTENTIAL APPROVAL OF THE MENTIONED FEASIBILITY STUDY. THIS WAS DONE USING A MULTI PRONG APPROACH THAT INCLUDES PROFESSIONAL DIVERS, TRANSECT STUDIES, AND VOLUNTEERS. THESE EFFORTS RESULTED IN THE COMBINED REMOVAL OF NEARLY 16,000 POUNDS OF WEEDS. “The mission of the organization is to promote, preserve and improve the environment of mountain view lake, indian lake and the channel connecting the 2 bodies of water, and to foster public awareness with respect to those lakes.”
“In continuation of the work with the town of bellmont supervisor, the franklin county water district manager and ecologic, meetings were held with the adirondack park agency to futher the feasibility study for sediment remediation for mountain view lake and indian lake. The adirondack park agency has aided us with guidance for those things which would aid in potential approval of the mentioned feasibility study. Work continues with our long-term goal of remediation for the lakes with the aim of restoring the health of the lakes and reduction of the destructive invasive weeds and the reduction of sediment from the bodies of water. Further progress was made on the short-term goals of clearing the boating lanes in mountain view lake and the channel while keeping indian lake at a maintenance level for invasive weeds. This was done using a multi prong approach that includes professional divers, transect studies, and volunteers. These efforts resulted in the combined removal of nearly 16,000 pounds of weeds. This minimizes the further spread of the invasive weeds. Additionally, information concerning the invasive species is provided for boaters at the boat launch and through signage regarding the cleaning of boats and motors before and after entering any body of water. Unclean boats is the primary spreader of invasive species from one body of water to another. During the summer over 80 volunteerts participated in weeding activities 2 days per week during july and august. The single largest group in a single day of 76 people volunteering their time. We received a 2,000 grant from the town of bellmont and donations from individuals, both members and non-members alike to fund our diving activities. We participated in water quality testing with excellent results and share all our results during 2 general membership meetings. Our legacy fund continues to grow and is nearing the point that we may use some of that fund to support our weed removal efforts while continuing to increase our water quality and weed control fund. Additionally, a five year plan was put together to help the organization financially meet its mission for the health of the lakes.”

ADDITIONALLY, A FIVE YEAR PLAN WAS PUT TOGETHER TO HELP THE ORGANIZATION FINANCIALLY MEET ITS MISSION FOR THE HEALTH OF THE LAKES. |
