The mission of the organization is to promote, preserve and improve the environment of mountain view lake, indian lake and the channel connecting the 2 bodies of water, and to foster public awareness with respect to those lakes.

Form 990-ez, Part III, Line 28

The mountain view association has continued its membership with the new york state federation of lakes association and the adirondack lakes alliance. Several meetings and informational seminars were attended by association officers. The mva has continued a close collaboration with the franklin county soil and water conservation board for advice and support regarding lake management. Members of the mva have worked closely with the town board of the town of bellmont in the planning stages for a sediment remediation program for mountain view lake and the channel that connects it to indian lake. A grant has been approved for 70,000 for the town to be applied to the engineering planning for the project. Related, as part of this collaboration the town has employed ecologic llc (cazenovia, ny) which has worked closely with the town and with the mva in developing preliminary project plans. This work has required multiple meetings and telephone conferences. The mva has employed the services of the adirondack watershed institute of paul smiths college to carry out objective water-plant assessments in the lakes.(cost 500) the mva has employed the services of the adirondack lake assessment program which analyzes and reports back to the mva water quality in the lakes. Trained mva volunteers collect and hand deliver water samples to alap at paul smiths college three times during the summer months (cost 1,000) the mva received a 2,000 grant from the town of bellmont to assist with the expenses of water quality assessment and weed control. The mva employed the services of aquatic invasive management to remove the invasive plant eurasian watermilfoil from the lakes. During 2016 aim worked for three weeks removing 82 bags of invasive totaling approximately 2.6 tons of plant material. (cost 17,000) on july 23, 2016 over 40 mva volunteers worked for four hours to remove another eight trailer loads of invasive weeds from mountain view lake. This amounted to 5 tons of plant material.

Form 990-ez, Part III, Line 29

Through its two newsletters, emails and association meetings, the mva continued its program of educating boaters and shoreline owners of proper shoreline management, aquatic plant identification and nys boating regulations.
