Supplemental Narrative

Additional Explanations

Form 990-EZ, Part I, Line 16

Part I, Line 16 - This line includes liability insurance payments, security alarm monitoring cost share (cost split 50/50 between NPS and AGFA), purchase of expendable materials (such as paint, screws, wood, machine shop stock and other consumable materials) and acquisition of historic property (durable items) that are added at fair market/replacement cost value to the association's property inventory.

Form 990-EZ, Part I, Line 20

This entry represents the net increase in the cost of historic and non-historic property owned by the Association.

Form 990-EZ, Part II, Line 24

This line represents the monetary value of historic and non-historic equipment, uniforms, tools, and so forth maintained by the association to accomplish its mission. These assets are either insured or otherwise of enduring value and are appropriately reflected in the Association's net worth. These assets support association restoration work, preservation efforts, and public interpretive events at Fort Hancock (Sandy Hook Unit, Gateway National Recreation Area) as well as public presentations at other locations. Items are primarily stored inside Battery Gunnison/New Battery Peck at Fort Hancock (Sandy Hook) New Jersey - the Sandy Hook Unit of the Gateway National Recreation Area of the National Park Service. The bulk of the property in the valued inventory is historic items to include three M1910A1 Azimuth Instruments (coast artillery fire control instruments), two M1904 telescopic sights, a plotting board, six historic M1903 rifles (demilitarized), approximately fifty-six EE-91 fire control telephones, 1920 Frankford Arsenal sectionalized Artillery Fuse display board, a BE-63 outdoor telephone box from 1943, five MC-153 Time Interval bells from 1942 and 1943, a 1941 vintage 240 volt electric heater, historic tools, historic electric fans and heaters, historic and reproduction uniforms, and other items all used in execution of our historic restoration, preservation and interpretive mission. This property has been valued by average current replacement cost or actual acquisition cost.

Form 990-EZ, Part III, Line (28-31)

Part III, Line 28 - The costs associated with these events were those required to conduct the events. This consisted of half the cost of insurance and security monitoring. These events could not have been conducted without those costs having been paid. The liability insurance is required by the agreement with the National Park Service. XXXXXXXXXXXXX Part III, Line 29 - These funds expended ($3,123) included half the cost of liability insurance and security monitoring ($1,117) required to conduct events at Fort Hancock per the agreement with the National Park Service and the cost of steel materials and other items ($1,946) in support of restoration and preservation projects on behalf of the National Park Service (NPS). AGFA has posted various reports on restoration work on the Association website. These are reports provided to the National Park Service that outline some of the more significant projects undertaken by the Association. http://armygroundforces.org/restoration.html XXXXXXXXXXXXX Part III, Line 30 - The events referenced in this line do not accrue costs to the organization. They are important to further the goals and objectives of the organization and provide a vehicle to advertise the work that AGFA does at Fort Hancock, Sandy Hook Unit, Gateway National Recreation Area.

Form 990-EZ, Part IV

Definitions of Trustee and Elected Members of the Board of Directors are available in the by-laws which are posted on the association's website. Governing Member Ronald Brodzinski stepped down from the board on 31 December 2022. Two additional Governing Members were elected to the Board in October 2022.

IRS990ScheduleA/Form990ScheduleAPartVIGrp/ExplanationTxt0The National Park Service provides housing to AGFA members during workdays and public interpretive events. The NPS calculations for the housing cost $7.85 per night. AGFA used 20 room nights at Fort Hancock in December 2022. This was the only month in 2022 that AGFA was provided National Park Service (NPS) housing. This is the only value that is included in the calculations. The cost of NPS materials for preservation and restoration of the physical seacoast gun battery itself is directly related to US Government owned property and as such is not appropriate to cite in this submission.
