Mission

To inspire the people of charleston to connect with their parks and together create stunning public spaces and a strong community.

Major Activities

Activity 2
Beautification-park renovations: this signature program serves to revitalize, upgrade and transform existing parks and greenspaces. Projects within this program are developed with city and community consensus, conceptual design development and design implementation. Two major park renovations projects occurred in 2012. Corrine jones playground was updated with new playground equipment installed through the efforts of the local community, the conservancy and the city of charleston. At the same time, horticultural plantings were installed in a once barren landscape to provide 12 month of floral interest throughout the park. Allan park was the second project renovation to transform this park from bare dirt to a lush landscape with new turf grass and year round floral interest. This renovation project was also installed with the assistance of the local community and managed by the conservancy.
Activity 3
Education-educate you is the educational component program focusing on key areas within our parks: horticulture/ gardening, recreation, culinary and art. K-12 programing occurred throughout the year in park settings and school garden settings like the porter gaude vegetable garden program managed by the conservancy. Classes were also held at ashley hall school where students were preparing, growing and harvesting fall and early summer garden crops from plots located at the school. Spring gardening classes were organized and taught gratis to park angels and through fee based classes offered through the conservancy. Educational instruction also took place at all garden in the parks work sessions helping our volunteers improve gardening skill sets. The conservancys online presence continued to serve a greater audience through video presentations offered through a seasonal series titled help for the home gardener.

LOCAL SUPPORT FOR EACH PARK COMES FROM THE GENERAL CHARLESTON PARK ANGEL VOLUNTEER CORE AND FROM NEIGHBORS SURROUNDING THOSE PARKS AND GREENSPACES.
