Led by Congressman Mike Thompson, Mayors, Supervisors, and Council Members received an update from Davis elected official and staff on how investments in safe cycling infrastructure has benefitted the entire community. One immediate outcome is that NCTPA appointed a staff member to be Napa Countys first Active Transportation Coordinator. Working on a follow-up visit to Davis for NCTPAs Board and Technical Advisory Committee (public works directors for all jurisdictions).Supported Napa's Bicycle Trails Advisory Commission in its successful effort to get California Blvd widened and Class II lanes extended all the way to Trancas.Monitored progress on the feasibility study of bicycle and pedestrian underpass of Hwy 29 near First Street. Fish and Wildlife have signed off on the project and there is indeed sufficient clearance to use the underpass for a bike and pedestrian undercrossing. Support the BTAC in uging that the City resolve a right of way issue with one land owner and seek funding for the project.Advocated for release of TDA-3 funding for paving of the River Trail between 3rd Street and the existing River Trail south of Tulocay Creek in Napa. Trail to be paved in 2015. This trail connects a gap in the Vine Trail.Supported funding of the bike/ped bridge over Tulocay Creek.Advocated for timely re-opening of the Commuter Bike Path after the Napa quake.Advocated for reclassifying the Napa County portion of Solano Avenue from Class III bike route to a Class II bike lane. Successfully advocated for ratification of St. Helenas bicycle plan, enabling that city to qualify for federal and state funds for bicycling infrastructure improvements. Supported the new ATC to provide information on advocacy issues county-wide. Now, 4 of the 5 towns have citizens committees on biking or active transportation.Advocated for fulfillment of an agreement with Napa Public Works in 2013 to smooth the rough pavement of the bike lanes on Solano Avenue. Damaged bike lanes were repaved where needed from Redwood Road to the city limits.Advocated for Bicycle Friendly Community application for St. Helena, St. Helenas new ATC supports the idea; the City is deferring action until open positions in its planning and public works staff are filled.
