Mission and Program Overview

Mission

To operate exclusively for social welfare purposes, specifically related to economic development for lincoln county.

Program Services

DescriptionGrantsExpenses
Statement of accomplishments for our three largest program services for 2014.1.Unite Stakeholders for Increased Economic Development The EDC administered quarterly Mayors meetings, one being Short Course in Planning for Non-GMA Counties, a partnership with the WA Dept. of Commerce. Mayors meeting are an opportunity for our elected officials to sit down together to share best practices and lessons learned. The EDC continues to work with the Bureau of Reclamation in regard to the opportunities and barriers surrounding staff increases at the Grand Coulee Power Office. Housing and child care are two examples of barriers we are working on with the Bureau. A meeting with USDA Rural Development was held to explore housing programs and available homes are being advertised at the Bureaus facility. A lack of licensed child care providers is also being addressed (see 3 below.) The EDC was an active participant on the Lincoln County Shoreline Management Plan coalition to assure that a required plan update supports the goals and objectives of Lincoln Countys Economic Development Strategy. The EDC provides our community with a blog www.LincolnEDC.org/blog and with social media updates that cover regional economic development news and announcements.2.Provide Assistance to the Regions New and Existing Businesses and Industries The EDC contracted with Lincoln County to act as the Visitor & Convention Bureau for a 3rd year. We administered a statewide promotion of the marinas, campgrounds and boating activities available at Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area; regional promotion of local festivals; statewide promotion of hunting and fishing opportunities; and maintained and promoted the Countys tourism website. The EDC also assisted the Wilbur Chamber in producing a television commercial promoting shopping and tourism. The EDC provided professional training opportunities for businesses and organizations in 1) Marketing a business through social media; 2) Building and maintaining a WordPress website; and 3) Strengthening the leadership skills of non-profit Boards. The EDC hosted EDC Connect, a countywide business networking opportunity that drew nearly one hundred attendees. The EDC partnered with Lincoln County on a successful Community Economic Revitalization Board (CERB) Planning Grant application. The funds are being used to evaluate sites for a permanent facility for intelliPaper, a growing tech company. The company hopes to break ground in Lincoln County by the start of summer 2016 and the EDC will be doing everything we can to help them achieve that goal.3.Identify and Address Workforce Gaps A severe shortage of licensed child care providers was brought to our attention by some of the countys largest employers. The EDC hosted a forum to bring together employers, parents and current and potential care providers to determine the needs of the community. The forum lead to an In-Home Center licensing workshop and other resources needed to open a child care center in Washington State. The EDC remains the central information hub for the issue and has developed a listserv to dispense related news, needs, and opportunities. The EDC co-hosted a Local Career Fair with the Odessa High School Future Business Leaders of America club. It featured careers available in rural counties. Three hundred high school students were joined by thirty-one presenters for a half day of career exploration and a BBQ lunch. The EDC knows that many Lincoln County students believe they have to move away after graduation to get a good job while we often struggle to fill good jobs here at home. This event was intended to address that issue. The FBLA club received 4th place nationally for this Business in Partnership project.$119,488-
